I thought it was a pretty solid system that incorporated a lot of things I like into it. And curiously, I think that offense would fit quite nicely into Stoops' own philosophy, much more so than what we've been trying to run under Brown and Dawson. While elements of the Pease offense were definitely designed to spread you out and shred you, he also could readily throw a power running game at you, Heck, he even used a bit of I formation with a fullback at times and had other formations where he could put 2 or even 3 tight ends on the field if the situation favored it.
I'm not quite sure how you would classify the offense that Pease ran here during the Guy Morriss years. It wasn't the Air Raid of the Mumme years for sure, though it did have some similar concepts within it. Nor was it a conventional pro-style system, though it had elements of that too. And yet it wasn't overly complicated either. I guess the term that would best describe the 2001-2002 Pease offense would be a "power spread" , not all that different in design and intent to what Bobby Petrino likes to run.
How do you think an offense like that would work at UK now? It seems to me that if you want a balanced attack and a legit run game, then such an offense might just be what the doctor ordered. In 2002 UK was one LSU miracle last second play away from an 8-4 regular season record.
Here is the 2001 UK playbook that I found while browsing around the intrawebs if anyone wants to look it over:
