. . . we died because we can't guard the perimeter, can't get back on defense, and can't take it strong to the hoop. Jarvis scores inside, but we don't have a bell-cow to penetrate and drive to the basket.

That being said, after the game Wednesday night, was there any doubt about tonight's outcome? It's not just "living and dying by three" . . . a 4-guard lineup works best when there are mismatches. LSU went small, and Auburn is small; this was a straight up match-up, and we struck out again. The gameplan was poor, granted, but the execution was far worse.

I just wish we could have shot the ball the other night against LSU like we did tonight. If so, we would have won this past Wednesday and losing tonight would have been nearly as damaging.

We can score the points (for once), but unfortunately, so can the other team.

I agree with Dawg that we're simply not a very good defensive team. Even though some of the numbers show us holding teams to low shooting percentages, we're really not that good at perimeter defense. And while Varnado does block and change a ton of shots, the small lineup leaves us open to the offensive rebound.

If you want to go small you should be able to cause a bunch of turnovers with your speed and get to the rim on offensive more easily, but we don't do either of those as well as the typical small team does. So it all comes down to the fact that we have to shoot 40% or more from the 3-pt line to win games against most decent teams unless they have an off-night as well.

While you can win that way, it's tough to win consistently that way and that's what you've seen from out team this year. I think in the end we're a solid NIT team and I think that's what most people predicted before the season. We simply don't have the horses to be a solid NCAA team.

If Varnado stays and the young players get better at some things I think we could be very good next year. I just hope we go back to a more traditional lineup with a PF for most of the time, but know that we can go small if necessary.

We shoot 40% and we win...
Stans has decided to play this way and we lost again tonight...
We could start 3 guards, but he has chosen to Live and Die by the 3 ball, said so himself this year..

Our defense also sucks and we could not stop the RAT, and that comes back to coaching, or lack of...
It's going to be a long-shot to make the NIT if we keep this up...

If we shot 40%, we would have still lost. by 3. This is of course keeping everything else that actually did happen the same.

You are so predictable. Do you have a template for every post you make? If not, try this one.

- Look at final score and the box score cause we know you don't have time to go to Starkville or even sit down to watch this poorly coached team
- Based on final score, begin post "we lived/died by the 3 tonight"
- Don't use punctuation, only "....."
- Make either back-handed compliment to Stans or flat out bash him based on W/L
- Point out we need to start Osby or another big because we live and die by the 3
- We're NIT bound at best
- Lastly ignore all facts that may prove any statement you make to be wrong
- Of course feel free to arrange these in any order you see fit

Apologies to Dawg@Auburn for ripping off his Remembers post to JR, but the similarities between JR and fishwater are too much to ignore and that reply was so apt that I felt it applied perfectly. Seriously, are we sure this isn't JR or maybe his 14 year old son?

No I have been to several games this year in S-Vegas and watch all I can on TV.. I love the game and MSU..
Stans himself has said we are going o live and die by the 3 ball.. It is true win or lose when we shoot that many 3 pointers.
Screw your punctuation!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am not the only one who feels like I do about Stans, he is a good coach, great elvaluator of talent, and horrible floor coach..
Stans chose to go with 4 guards, I think we should start 3 guards with Osby & SWAT, we do live by our outside shooting or die as we did last night.
We keep losing and we will be lucky to make the NIT.
What facts prove we don't live and die by the 3 ball?

I don't know JR and your sig is getting old, Randy might need to be replaced with Ravern...

We will be in the NIT this year. Of course you were freaking out and crying after every loss last year and saying there was no way we would make the tourney, so I would really expect nothing less from you this year

Explain to me how we would be a long shot for the NIT.

with the games we have left, we could go anywhere from 4-2 to 1-5. Worst case scenario (1-5) would put us at 17-14 heading into the SEC Tourney. I think this SC game is huge for our psyche the rest of the season. They are the leading scoring team and best 3 pt shooting team in the SEC. Gonna be a good match-up

Fishwater has never had an original thought in his life. He sees or hears other people say things about sports and then rushes over here to post it so people will proclaim his genius. Unfortunately for him most people here are able to intelligently form their own opinions and he comes off looking even dumber than he already is.

Go back, do a Ronnie and see what and when I said, you just hate for me to be right about anything...
I stand by my statements that MSU lives and die by the 3 ball and that Osby should be starting...

is why you think you are such a genius for proclaiming that we rely on making 3's to win. We play 4 guards, idiot. Of course we rely on the 3.

I disagree with the 4 guard lineup and have since Stans instuted it.
I think we should have gone big with Osby and took our lumps this year, looking toward the future of MSU Bball.
We all knew this year was a rebuilding year anyway, Stans was trying to ride the hot shooters and we ran out of them lately.
Maybe the Ninja has turned up the heat on "The Recruiter" already..
Teams have adjusted to us, turned up the 3 point defense and we have lost two in a row and I will not be surprised if we to SC next.

I also think Osby should have started. However, the 4-guard line-up could have still been in place with Osby still getting more minutes. I agree with you in the respect that Osby isnt getting enough minutes to be ready for next year. We see whats happening with Ravern this year after he didnt log enough minutes last season.
