Hot take D-league and high end CBB become some sort of b@st@rd child mix of an unholy relationship seemingly brewing.

Never understood why NBA tried to start a farm system when they’ve always had one at no cost.

After high school, and relatively similar aged overseas talent. You get 5-6 years of CBB. If you can’t play by then you ain’t going to the league.

As I said earlier it’s for next season not this season. Pope and staff have plenty of time to make sure he is eligible legitimately and not by some court order. It’s highly likely Dink is a Cat next season. Only way he isn’t is if he lands a true pro contract by then. He is putting up good numbers as of late and any team can sign him NBA wise. I believe he will be at Kentucky next season, a good first piece of incoming players.

BGs agent is Dinks agent and JJ is fairly close to him, add that to Hart having a close coach player relationship with him. This isn’t smoke or a casual conversation, it’s a real push to sign him for NEXT season not this year.

Not buying it’s for next season. This guy won’t be in the top 5 for transferring point guards. It’s definitely for now. It would be a big mistake to start signing guys this early unless they are top 20 freshmen or absolute studs. They started on pursuit for this season Barney probably stepped in. If pope is just trying to sign the best guys he can well that’s a problem because we need chemistry. Pope is going to need to bring in guys who fit a system. Pope has no system so time are just throwing the best guys we can get out there.

LOL. If we can't land stud high school players then the G league is exactly where we should be looking, unless you have a better idea. Community college transfer maybe?

BTW, this "we are KY" attitude is partially why we aren't getting the players we want. That's been Popes attitude at the negotiating table. Newsflash, these kids don't care that we are KY. It's money and minutes. That's all that matters.

Go get talent. Who cares where from. This G league kid is the same age as JJ. If he averages 18 in the G league then I'd say that equates to a very high level high school kid. We have to be wiling to adapt to the times and the times they are a changin.

I’ve heard this for 20 years that the UK mystique has worn off. Heck I heard it before we landed pitino. The problem is to sell UK tradition you neeed a stud coach doing the selling. Why? Because if “we are KY” as you say is gonna work. That means we have a hall of fame level coach. Then players say “the mystique is real because here is a hof coach”. You can’t sell the UK tradition with a former player from 30 yrs ago who has zero success on level with being at UK. The tradition brings the coach it always has. This fool of an ad is the only clown to miss on coaches like he has. He’s down played the tradition and as a matter of fact I believe his goal has been to bring our bb program down. He hired a terrible coach and our facilities are not up to par for what we say we are. A yes man as a coach is the quickest way for this blueblood to become the worst of the 5.

I think the NBA created the age limit which resulted in OAD as an attempted solution to the problem that teams couldn't help themselves from drafting (so many high schoolers) based on future potential rather than current ability. And the D/G- league was an extension of that, because they were then drafting kids with just 1 year of college, tons of potential, but still the current ability wasn't there yet.

Most don’t like the changes in rules but if it’s legal to bring this dude in and he can play now then bring him in. 🏀

Then why refuse a player that the team and the player are both begging him to come here ? Try education please
Several reasons. Has the NCAA signed off on it? Do we have the funds available to pay what he is asking for? Is he a good kid or is he trouble for a team that has finally shown some life winning 4 straight? Does his game fit what we need. Maybe you should educate your self. Basketball isnt as simple as yelling "squirrel!" ar every player available

It’s weird that we would be talking to this guy while Pope was on his soapbox about the Bama kid just 2 days ago.
This guy has never played college ball or in the NBA. He is just like the kid from UL that came out of the G League. I think Dink would be deemed eligible. The Bama player left college for an NBA contract. I think that is the distinction between him and European players and pure G Leaguers.

if it’s for next season, I’m all for it. Pate is likely better than Stokes or Collins, if we are only getting either of them for just next year.

its obvious you know nothing about the sport
whys it always gotta devolve into that?
"you know nothing"
"you're a fake fan"
"you're a closet Duke troll"
it's so boring.
everybody's takes on here are worth the same: jack sh*t. we're all in a weird spot as UK fans this season and just trying to make sense of this all as it happens.

Well we had a HOF coach, recently. I'm not sure the "we are KY" worked then either.

It's hard for me to say anybody is wrong on this one, no matter what your take, because I can't make up my mind. This guy was never drafted by an NBA team and has never signed a 2 way contract with one and never went to college. If he'd went to college he'd only be a junior. His situation sounds different from that of AJ only because he's from the US instead of Europe. I do like that he's recruiting UK instead of the other way around.

technically tho if you're on a G League deal your contract is with the NBA team. so he is currently signed to a contract with the New York Knicks

thanks for the info...so my post doesn't mislead anybody I'll edit it to "never signed a 2 way contract".
you're good. this stuff is confusing.
that's why i'm skeptical of anyone acting like this is a very obvious "black and white" matter. there's a huge amount of grey area, largely due to the NCAA's accepting Euros that have been on pro deals, like you mentioned.

My worry is the NCAA never misses a chance to wizz all over UK. They would find some reason why the one kid we signed was different than the other kids and slam us with sanctions
