I've been absent since Saturday, only because I HAD to work. I put virtually everything businesswise on hold for the last few weeks. Sunday, I started paying the old fiddler back. (16 hour day). This morning I was in the office at 5:00am. And absolutly no complaints. I would do it all over again.
Dinwiddie may have left Williamsburg with a few less points on the scoreboard, but nobody lost. Everybody won. Salem earned that state championship, no question about that. But, we all, meaning fans and teams alike, came away winners. From the competition, to the sportsmanship, to the friendships new and old, there were no losers.
I was so glad to see my Preps friends again. And to meet the new ones. The opportunity to occasionally meet you gals and guys in person is truly some of the best days of my life. I thank you for being my friend.
On occasion, I have exchanged a few text and emails with Chris King, the Salem AD. I call him my friend, but we seldom have the chance to make small talk. After the game Saturday, Chris took time to send me a text expressing how impressed he was with the competition and sportsmanship Dinwiddie displayed, especially after the game. And of course, he tried to dry my tears. The fact that he would take a few minutes while they were in the middle of celebrating a great victory, just meant the world to me. Salem is fortunate to have such a kind and considerate person representing Salem athletics.
On a lighter note, that 1987 picture on Bleeding Navy would need to be taken with a panoramic camera if taken today. And Mike, when your "dads" post that picture of you wearing the Generals hat, you will have hell to pay to your Spartan friends.
