It was the weather forecast. Couldnt play on Saturday (holiday weekend) and neither team wanted to play on Monday and have short week. It was Smithfields call, but it does give Dinwiddie another day to prepare for Salem and we can send more coaches to scout them live. Thank you weather and thank you Packers.

Rain was the forecast for the whole metro Richmond area as well. Maybe the rest of us should follow suit. It will be lightning as well so the games may not be playable on Friday

Yes sir, it's not really the rain or the threat of rain, but rather the possibility of lightning. With the rules that are in place, a thunderstorm lingering in the general area could easily prevent the game from being played.

Unfortunately, the chance of storms exist for Thursday night also, but there is a slightly lower chance, 40%.

As Navy explained, if the game couldn't be played Friday night, it creates a really tough situation. Both Saturday and Monday are bad options because of the holiday weekend. Many families, including those you don't often think about, have made plans. Game officials, concession staff, gate workers, Police and Sheriffs Deputies, even bus drivers all figure into the equation. And of course, no team wants to play on Monday night, and turn around and play on Friday night.

I commend the Smithfield AD for being proactive and moving the game up to Thursday night. His decision leaves a little extra wiggle room in case Thursday night turns out to be a bust.

So just to update everyone Glen Allen and Monacan have now moved their game for Thursday night as well. I am sure more changes are to follow.

Latest forecast down here has thunderstorms after midnight, so everyone should be ok.

And the rain could ruin the marching band equipment.

Smithfield's "new" AD is the absolute best. Quality hire. Quality person. A win all the way around.
