I had Directv and switched to Dish because it was cheaper. After dealing with completely incompetent customer service, and after Dish raising my fees, I switched back to Directv. I had the premier packages with both, and Directv's is better based on channels.

In the premier package for Dish, you still have to pay extra for all of the sports channels; while in Directv's premier package, all sports are included.

Dish did have better quality HD for the local channels, but the other channels are about the same. My NBC with Directv pixalates a lot. However, my Dish service "skipped" a lot.

Directv has good customer service, and they seem to have a lot of deals floating around, some advertised and some not.

To summarize: DIRECTV. My opinion.

Ignoring the first year, where you do get a deep discount, by the time I wired multiple rooms, rented black boxes, and paid to get the sports packages I wanted they were WAY more expensive. I choose to go to the local watering hole and watch the games there. Yes, I am cheap.

I've had both, not real impressed with either. I am switching back to cable at the end of this month......we'll see how that goes, but I will say the HD picture quality on dish is going to be hard to beat.

Well damn. I need to have a service guy to come out on my Dish. My HD picture was better when I had cable.

Dish.......it is cheaper. Customer service was terrible when we first hooked it up. I asked for one package got another. Which screwed the bill up a few months. I got free HD out of it for a year though. Or than that........I have had no problems. Other than outages for weather. Which does not happen with cable obviously. My neightbor has Direct and his reception goes out as often or maybe more than mine.

My parents moved out to an area that won't see cable TV in my lifetime, so satellite is their only option. Due to my dad's stubborn and somewhat compulsive behavior, they have real nice Samsung LED LCD, because that's the TV I told him I wanted for my house. Well he didn't get the HD package with DirecTV and they are wanting to charge him to replace the dishes to upgrade when he was led to believe that it wouldn't cost him to upgrade.

Anyway, he's wanting to switch to DishNetwork and I've been telling him to call them and ask if they will pay the cancellation fee for his DTV contract. Anyone have any experience with this?

They will pay off the fees in some cases. Doesn't hurt to call.<div>
</div><div>Also, for anyone with Dish or Directv. They are both running HD free for life for new customers. That's normally 10 a month. If you call your current provider and tell them you are leaving to get free HD for life from the other one they will give it to you.</div><div>

I don't know what receiver or dish they had you hooked up with, but one of my friends just got it and it's awesome! You can go to Sears and look at their tv's they are on dish. Pretty impressive. My Direct goes out every time the wind blows, that's another reason I'm going with cable. Not as many HD channels, but they've got all the ESPN's in HD and I'll get the local news, for whatever reason on Dish and Direct we get the Memphis news, but are much closer to Tupelo than Memphis.

choose directv. Not just football but for like the major golf and tennis tournaments they do a mix channel which I really like so you can watch multiple holes and follow the golfer you want. They do the same thing for the ncaa tournament which is really kick ***. Also the mlb nfl nba and nhl channels are all on direct plus cbs college sports.

have direct tv with sports pack, espn gameplan, nfl sunday ticket, march madness, and some more stuff. i love it. have friends with dish who wish they had direct. HD is very good, and weather usually does NOT bother it, and i live in snow country. we have to reboot maybe two or three times a year, but that's no big deal. of course, with a blizzard i have to use a rake to get the snow off the satellite dish, but it's powder and easily removed. one friend even has a heater attached to his dish. in mississippi that would not, of course, be needed.

customer service - the few times i have used it in 4 years - is very good and very knowledgeable. even talked to a rep in tupelo once!

long story short - i recommend direct....

I have been with Direct for about 10 years. IMO, their customer service has never been poorer than it is now.

switched back to DirecTV. I've been with DirecTV for over 15 years and they give me free stuff all the time and treat me like a king. I'm not leaving.

BTW, if you are going to DirecTV find a friend that has it and you can get him and you a free $100 for referral.

and maybe it's just his neighborhood but the picture is horrible. The HD is worse than cable and much worse than DirecTV.

Internet speed is good although the wireless equipment they give you is terrible.
