I've had Directv for all of one week. I've been a lifelong cable subscriber and finally decided to take the plunge since it seems I hear nothing but positives about satellite. First off, the install guy did a ****** job with the installation. Instead of getting a ladder out and following the existing cable line under the roof awning, he decides to drill into my brick and run the cable at eye level all the way around my house. I really can't believe they never asked before drilling into the brick.

Then I come to find out that in Tupelo we don't get local/network channels in HD. Now I know I'm partly responsible for not noticing this while researching the service but I never would have thought that out of all the HD channels available, that the most important ones to me weren't an option. Again, as a newbie to satellite this never occurred to me. So now I'm not able to watch most major sporting events in HD unless they're on ESPN. No World Series, no Super Bowl, No BCS Bowls. Not to mention the few sitcoms I like to watch: Modern Family, Parks and Rec, and The Office.

And then, a couple days ago I see the cast for Always Sunny tweeting about losing FX, not to mention some other Fox offshoots. So now, not only will I not get to see my favorite show (Always Sunny) in HD, I won't be able to see it at all.

Is there any way for me to get out of my contract if this happens? I don't see how they are able to change the programming I signed up for and I just have to sit and take it. I know it's in the contract small print but ****.

This isn't how you gain customer loyalty.

/Rant off

They're about $30. They installed my DTV Saturday. I didn't have any idea until my brother called me Saturday to tell me we were 17'd.

and I'm pissed about it....used to work for Clear Channel years ago....talked to some peeps a couple of weeks ago and said FM sports talk kicked their ***.....

and we told them 9 years ago they should move The Score to FM on Q105.1.....and they all laughed at us.......

and guess who kicked Chuck and Dougs ***???....you guessed it.....Bo Bounds......could have seen that coming a mile away.....Chuck and Doug never fully catered to what MS sports fans want....

90% college sports, 10% other....

sorry for the thread hijack, but it just hit a nerve with no foxsports radio and no jim rome in jackson anymore....

usually it's "oh noes, Time Warner is dropping ESPN!111!" or "Dish Network is dropping HBO unles...." then it never happens for longer than a day. It's a negotiating ploy.

you will miss 2 things:

- not being able to record live sports from Network TV (i.e. if you wanted to DVR the world series) - and the OTA DVR's that claim HD are a crock and don't work.
- not getting an outrageous bill from cable or satellite company

When MSU is on a channel I can't get (and I actually care to watch) then we get a baby sitter and go to the local MSU viewing party. The baby sitter cost is still less than overpriced cable/satellite plus you get to socialize with the local alums.

Stream Hulu over the xbox or Blue Ray player (yeah I have Time Warner internet but have to have that nowadays anyway)

I have a friends login to ESPN3 so that does help since I can watch anything on espn/espn2 and espnu... Although only 4-5 times this year have I used it at all.

I get about 20 channels in HD through the antenna.

If you want to watch SEC sports and get all the CSS games. Their new DVR's have a larger capacity and the added HD channels are finally here.
The only channel I really don't get is HDNET, so I miss a few concerts, but oh well...

I had comcast for years and there was no way I was going back to them when I moved back to my hometown. The picture was constantly freezing up and there was nothing the service tech could do to fix it. Plus it was way more expensive than directv. Of course, considering my present dilemma, I'm starting to wonder if I made the right decision.

Antenna Web

This site will give you information about antennas and even plot your location on where the signals come from. I don't think it is related to any manufacturer.

I live in Tupelo and have directv. I get locals in HD using a roof top antenna. Getting channel 9-1 & 9-2 WTVA and 45-1 WKDH is hit or miss using rabbit ears or a small antenna. 4-1, 4-2, & 4-3 WCBI and 27-1 & 27-2 WTVA have a strong signal and rabbit ears will pick them up no problem. I also have a AM-21 box from Directv that you hook up to your DVR that lets you see the local OTA channel in the directv guide and record the OTA channels on your DVR. It's also nice to have the OTA when the weather gets bad. I prefer directv over tupelo comcast. For the occasional CSS game I pay for comcast internet with basic cable channels 2-13. Internet only is more expensive than internet plus basic cable. I still get about 75-80 SD channels from comcast including CSS.

The sports pack with all the Fox Channels is THE reason I went with DirecTV. They don't have my locals in HD and cable does, if those channels go I have no reason to stay with them at all. </p>

They moved Rome and all the crappy Fox Sports radio stuff to AM 1590. I think they even picked up Dan
Patrick too.

I never even thought to check on something like that. And of course, during my multiple conversations with Directv over the phone, it was never mentioned.

For Tupelo, you're really screwed either way I guess. I'm just ready for Uverse to get here. I know some on here don't like it but the couple people I know who have it love it.
