Discussion: How much better would we be if AK was our coach?

Heard AK on the OOB show this morning. Regardless of how you feel about OM, AK is a good interview to listen to (besides in the back of a cop car; international altercation). I know many don't like Stans. So, with this teams talent, what would our record be with AK as our HC and how deep could we go in the tourney?

We would be no better and most likely already out of the tourney picture. Kind of like <span style="font-weight: bold;">THE TEAM HE COACHES NOW</span>.

Good grief.

only difference is Kennedy coaches at the armpit of the SEC in basketball- the only SEC school without a conference championship...Stansbury averages 1 more win per year at a better program that he, Williams, and John Brady built.

It would be a wash- Stansbury keeps us decent most every year and in the top half of the SEC- Kennedy has elevated their program from **** to the bottom of the NCAA bubble and a perennial NIT team

Please not this ****. Look at Ole Miss under his watch to see where we'd be.

All my post says is that I think Kennedy is a good interview. A lot of our fans on this board think Stan's is the worst coach in history of ball. It would be fair to assume most think Kennedy is a better coach at a much worse basketball program. I thought it was worthy of discussion and didn't need a disclaimer

I think it's reasonable to say he could get our much better program to the top of it and into the Dance a couple of times. They start at a lower level than we do

As I said- it would be a wash

I feel like asking if we would be better with your coach is complimentary and cause for a nice discussion. Yet you reply with some smack board banter. There are multiple topics on Nafoom about Msu. Do we worry about y'all being obsessed? No. Y'all are obsessed with calling us obcessed (very strange). If you are that worried about topics about your rival on the 1rst page you need to scurry back to Nafoom and start posting away b/c at the rate Nafoom is going those MSU post will be on ya'lls front page for 6 months

Stans = rarely gets in and when he does its by the skin of his teeth, then wins 0 or 1 games in the tournament.

AK = with 1 less win per year, he's on the outside looking in at MSU though the surface of a thin bubble.

Its a wash.

Also, any topic on the NAFOOM front page is likely to be there for months no matter what.

Cause for a nice discussion? I don't think so. AK has reached his ceiling (without UK/Duke talent) and any reasonable person would agree.. If you want him, you can have him. A classic AK scenario is unfolding before us. He gets the guys to loose and fast when there is no pressure to get into the tourney at the end of the season and we win a few games. We'll probably get passed Aub on Thursday and that'll start the talk of "2 wins and in" for us. We'll promptly drag an inflatable ***** out to center court with the words NCAA Tourney written across her chest, lube our selves up and cram her *** crack full of Short, White, Cox. Effectively 17ing ourselves right out of yet ANOTHER tourney appearance. Guaranteed.

These are the facts. They are not in dispute.

Even most realistic Reb fans don't blame the Sad Pad for all their basketball woes.

Most would point to Stans W-L record against them ... 7-3, 70%; or compare Stans & AKs SECT W-L record ... Stans is 7-3, 70% & AK has one win ... 1-4, 20% since AK arrived as 'evidence.'

Hasn't OM had their practice facility a couple of years? What happened to that 'advantage?'

AK was so desperate he brought in a 'ticking timebomb' in Jelan Kendrick. My Reb co-worker even said that Kendrick had another 'near' explosion before the Bama game.

The Rebs are on a 'winning streak' the last couple of games but I would really, really rather face them instead of UT if we do get by Vandy.

And like every SEC program that loses 5 starters, we had to take a couple of seasons to rebuild. Stansbury's 1st team had alot of talent- and had it been coached by Williams- was most likely an NCAA Tourney team

you either get in or you don't. Results are what matters.

Let me know if Mullen could keep his job for going 5-7 3 or 4 seasons in a row.

Rod Barnes was fired after his last 4 years of this
2002–2003 Ole Miss 14–15 4–12 T–5th (West)
2003–2004 Ole Miss 13–15 5–11 T–4th (West)
2004–2005 Ole Miss 14–17 4–12 T–5th (West)
2005–2006 Ole Miss 14–16 4–12 T–5th (West)

AK inherited garbage.

No doubt you were in the ******* when Kennedy took over. But Coach34 is making it sound like no one can win at UM and Evans and the early Barnes years prove that just isn't true.</span>

You would think as great as AK is he would be able to at least stumble into the NCAA tourney at least once in 6 years.

you are saying a team can be bad after having a successful year the previous year (See 2007 MSU baseball) but they can't be bad in basketball. It's all Stansbury's fault as to why we didn't make the tourney in 98-99.

Here is Williams last 2 years:

<table class="wikitable"><tbody><tr><td>1996-1997</td><td>Mississippi State</td><td>12-18</td><td>6-10</td><td>T-3rd (West)</td><td>
</td></tr><tr><td>1997-1998</td><td>Mississippi State</td><td>15-15</td><td>4-12</td><td>5th (West)</td></tr></tbody></table>

But seeing as how UM baseball was in year 7 of an 8-year string of NCAA tournaments and MSU was coming off a year in which we missed the tournament (and 4 of 5 years missing the tournament) when Cohen took over, their program was in better shape than ours.

but when he was removed from his job for no good reason- he, with the help of his assistants, had put together a team that was ready to return to the NCAA Tourney. Unfortunately, they made the wrong decision and got rid of him. And our assistant we promoted couldnt get the team there.

Like someone pointed in that linked thread, Ole Miss actually had a better overall record than State did.

Here is Barnes last 2 years:

<table class="wikitable"><tbody><tr><td>2004–2005</td><td>Ole Miss</td><td>14–17</td><td>4–12</td><td>T–5th (West)</td><td>
</td></tr><tr><td>2005–2006</td><td>Ole Miss</td><td>14–16</td><td>4–12</td><td>T–5th (West)</td></tr></tbody></table>
Here is Williams:

<table class="wikitable"><tbody><tr><td>1996-1997</td><td>Mississippi State</td><td>12-18</td><td>6-10</td><td>T-3rd (West)</td><td>
</td></tr><tr><td>1997-1998</td><td>Mississippi State</td><td>15-15</td><td>4-12</td><td>5th (West)</td></tr></tbody></table>
We were actually worse in the SEC after one year with his "new" team.

Removed for no good reason? Are you kidding me, the guy was banging everything in sight and besides that, he couldn't recruit a good player on his own. The guy has not had a major job offer since he was dismissed and yet you have stated on this board he is one of the two best coaches in the country along with Pitino. If these fools on this board keep on buying your ******** then no wonder MSU can't unify. You are so damn adamant about always being right that you will never ever change. You may find it amusing to your limited fanbase but you actually hurt MSU. Yes, some recruits read these boards and worse, our competition on recruiting reads it and print your BS without any validation. take some valium, prozac, or something and see if you are capable of going one week without something negative about our program or coach. I don't think you are capable of doing it.

1) Mullen won't get by making bowl games as infrequently as Stans makes the tournament.

2) Almost every year, AK is just as productive as Stans. So its a wash.
