Dixon's 252 tonight is NOT the school record.

....the 2006 media guide on the MSU website also says 257, plus multiple Google hits for "mississippi state houston 257" also confirm it. Uh oh...

Incorrect...
I have talked to media relations about this issue several times this season when I found differences in the media guide (257 vs 247)
THEY have FAILED to update this even though being told about it for 4 weeks now.

Norwood is corretly credited with 247 rushing yards in the game vs Houston.
In the post game writeup and season stats it will always contain the wrong info.
What happened was a pass from conner to humpheries was entered as 2 yards when it was 12, the other 10 was entered wrongly as a norwood rush.
This was not found out until later on in the season when the game was reviewed, and his records were then updated to reflect his career numbers.

If you did and you found it, then that is impressive. It is terrible that from Oct. 22, 2005 until now, the 257 has been listed as the all time rushing record. I was there that day. If you were not the person who discovered the discrepancy, who found it? By the way, Croom's post-game quote after that game was something like, "How can your tailback run for 257 yards, you have no turnovers, and you still lose by two touchdowns?"

the only one he caught that night..and only 11 on the season.

Looking back at that box score and stats is damn painful.

It couldn't POSSIBLY have been Woody McCorvey and his playcalling? Nah.

Media Relations found the error as I said...
I'm just a person who keeps a keen interest in current records and such..so I noticed the errors earlier in the season as I said.

The play by play and seasons stats were never updated online.. they an still be found online if ya wanted to see them...which I did at one time.

The record was only recognized as 257 until the season was over..after the 2005 season was completed..the error was found.

....is that MSU lost when Norwood ran for 250-ish yards and MSU almost lost again when Dixon ran for 250-ish yards.

That is bizarre.

as in winning by a TD on the road at Homecoming against a team coming off three straight bowl seasons? That kind of almost lost? After halftime we owned that game. I did not come away feeling like that was an "almost lost".

Auburn's Kenny Irons rushed for 250+ and Auburn lost to LSU.
