Do both LSU and Coastal Carolina pitch their two best today?

Absolutely. This is how baseball postseason should be played instead of the double elimination tournament bull****. Straight up best 2 of 3 & let’s see who’s better.

No, Coastal’s first starter, Eikhoff, pitched game 1 and game 3 in Omaha. Their third starter, Flukey, pitched in relief in game 1. He will start today. Their game 2 starter, Morrison, is the best. He will pitch tomorrow.

Today is a must win for LSU.

I've often thought this would be better too. It's the way we did it in high school. They tried 'regional' tournaments for a while but then went back to best of 3 series.

However, you'd be extending the season AND doing away with the CWS.

At end of the day, it is what it is. Baseball can't make up its mind what it wants to be. On one hand, you have MLB which is a slow daily grind. In youth ball you have weekend tournaments. College is somewhere in the middle, as in high school.

The postseason definitely plays a big part in college baseball flukiness.....it's not all "just baseball".

Or you could lose game one & then win two and three for the championship. Worked for us four years ago.
1 bad inning in Omaha in general and especially the finals will usually cost you a Dub!

I like the current format. A double elimination round. Then a 2 out of 3 series. Then repeat the process again in Omaha. The national champion has to be able to be good enough to navigate both formats. It has to have elite pitching, but also has to have some depth and can’t just rely on riding two or three arms all the way to a title.

Coastal Carolina hasn’t won a title yet. If they do, then I suspect you could look at the box score and at least 4 or 5 pitchers threw meaningful innings in winning postseason efforts this year. And if not, then they would be the rare exception.

Regardless CC has three on staff, that has won 10 plus games this season.

We hit Anderson very well in Baton Rouge. I expect to see that today. That will set the tone. Coastal isn't intimidated at all by LSU. Expect to see Jay call 23 time outs like it's little league. And to whine and cry about the pitch clock. Would not shock me to see him tossed today.

JJ's meddling puts JC's to shame. I mean that guy even delays start times in BR for fear of a 10 minute rain delay in the 3rd.

Coastal Carolina winning wouod be good for college sports. Baseball is still a sport where just because you throw a bunch of money at a coach and team, that doesn’t guarantee a college World Series appearance or championship.

Can we maybe accept the fact that Coastal is not a fluke of some kind.

They've won 56 games. 26 games in a row, including 8 in the NCAA tourney.

They're currently #2 in the RPI and #1 in the ELO rankings. LSU may win it, but it won't be because they're playing some Cinderella story.
