Can Nutts boys hang with #5 and company?

You would never think this team was 12 months from going 0-8 in the SEC and 3-9 overall.

I say TTech in a rout. They prove that they got disrespected by being put in this match up.

between which game will be the bigger rout, TTech over OleMiss or Texas over OhioState.

we should be able to score on them pretty freely. But if they go up quick, we could fall apart orgeron style. Conversely, if we get up they may collapse. They did barely beat Baylor after all.

...if they can hammer Harrell all day, they can win. Greg Hardy needs to leave his craziness at home, though, and put on his game face.

Mississippi's defensive front will remind Texas Tech of Oklahoma's defensive front that completely dominated them. Harrell will spend all day running for his life, picking himself up off the ground, and throwing off his back foot. And Tech's defense won't even come close to stopping Mississippi's offense. The difference in the game will be on the 25% of plays when Mississippi doesn't get good pressure on Harrell. He'll shred their secondary on those plays and that will be enough for Tech to pull out a 31-24 win.</p>

I agree with you pat, and if you look at Tech's season, it's not like they have a ton of impressive wins. The win over Texas was big, and the rout of Okie State was impressive. Outside of that, they've looked very average in some other games (Baylor, Nebraska, Oklahoma).

I think a lot depends on which TTU team shows up. Are they going to be a TTU team that shows up with a chip on their shoulder about being snubbed for a BCS shot, or will they show up disappointed in their bowl and play unfocused.

I agree with pat though that the only defensive fronts they've faced that compare to ours are Texas and Oklahoma. Oklahoma lived in TTU's backfield and disrupted their offense all game. If our front 4 can do that, as I think they can, then TTU won't light up the scoreboard as much as people think. I don't think they get to 40, and conversely, I think our offense can score on them, so I think it'll be a close game in the high 20s to somewhere in the 30s.

I agree. I think Mississippi has one of the best DL's in the nation. Not a lot of depth, but an outstanding DL regardless. The DL is either going to blow up TT's passing game or Mississippi will get blown out.

I voted yes! Not that I want them to win but if you look at the numbers TT is very beatable. Ole Miss Offenses out classes TT Defense. TT Defense is number 67 in the nation. The big 12 has the worst defenses in the Nation. Ole Miss offense is top 20 maybe even top 15 (I think 13th)while facing the best defenses in the nation. I really hate to give Ole Miss any props but they got a great chance to win this game. Even Oklahoma defense is number 57 in the nation. If Ole Miss don't lay an egg and maintain ball control and not get into a shoot out with them, Ole Miss will win.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes">

Oklahoma will get there asses handed to them by Florida. Florida has the number 3 offense in the Nation going up against the best defenses in the nation where Oklahoma has the number 1 offense going up against the worst defenses. The SEC is what 5 and 0 in the BCS championship with Florida winning two of those. Oklahoma has not faced defenses that can match up man to man like Florida is going to be able to do. I think Oklahoma will panic and their coaches will not know how to react. 24 to 7 at half time going Florida's way.

Just my opinion but I believe it, so in my mind it's the fact.</p>

Big 12 defenses dont hold a candle to SEC defenses. Mississippi will easily put up 30 on them and their defensive front will give them problems like Oklahoma did. Add into that a month to scout them and add some unexpected fronts and blitzes, and Mississippi could very well win the game.

I'm predicting a Mississippi win.

A few years ago Mike Shula led Bammer into the Cotton Bowl against a pretty good TT team too. Bama just flat out-physicalled them all game long. TT is better than they were then, but the concept will be close to the same. Oklahoma showed they dont like physical teams- and Mississippi is physical

If Harrell has time, he'll pick their secondary apart leading to a 3-4 td beating. Ole Miss will put a decent number of points up. I say if they hold Tech to 30 they win.

Well, the line opened at -7 for TTU, and so far it has moved to -5 or -5.5 in favor of TTU, so the money has been coming in on us to cover.

Not that that means everything, but it definitely means that the betting public thinks we'll at least keep it close. If you'll recall, I think the Egg Bowl opened at about a 13 point line, and the gamblers laid enough money on us to move it 5 or 6 points. Obviously they knew something there.

Plus, we're 8-3 against the spread this year, including 4 straight covers. We've been a money bet all year. So, if you ask Vegas and the gamblers, they'll tell you that they don't think it'll be a TTU rout.

the last time Graham Harrell played a defense that pressured him (Oklahoma) They performed poorly. I don't tech will be able to do what they want offensively and fall behind early and then Ole Miss will bring the pressure. Their front of their defense is one of the best in football.

Also, Ole Miss WILL be able to score on the poor defense.

It pains me to say it but I think they will win and I am pulling for them. (hell I'll be there with my rebel wife.)

This season is a very good team. (That just kills me) I believe this Ole miss Team is Better overall than the Manning team because they don't rely on just 1 player to win. I call 42- 17 Ole Miss.

I expect Ole Miss to try and bring pressure early, and get burned. Tech will win, and it will probably get ugly.

The problem with that line of thinking is that I don't think we'll try to bring pressure. I think we'll just rely on our front 4 to get pressure, which makes that short, quick passing game a lot more difficult. If we can get pressure with our front 4 without having to bring blitzes, and I think we can, then that'll disrupt their offense. You're right that if we blitz and leave our corners on an island, we'll get burned, but if we can get pressure without blitzing, then it'll allow our corners to play tight knowing they have help.

But on most plays, UM will only have to cover the receivers for a second or two, and as Bruiser points out, it's not like UM is going to have to bring any blitzes to get huge pressure on Harrell. But you're right that UM may not have the back 7 to cover those receivers for even a second or two. If they can't, Tech will break 40 easily. I think they'll be able to cover them OK for that long, but I could be wrong on that.

the Florida team they beat in the Swamp is not the same team that played the last half of the season. Not even close.

Tech also hasn't seen the wildcat package which will put at least 7 on the board. Should be a good offensive battle to watch regardless. I hate Tech but I'm not sure if I dislike anyone more than Nutt's Rebels.

and like most it seems, I agree that this will be close.

As far as Ole Miss's pass rush, the Texas Tech o-line is not bad, and I agree with what Drebin said about Ole Miss secondary.

I think this is a shootout, and I'm going with Tech because of Harrell and Crabtree.

TTU is not accustomed to playing against people that like to hit and tackle and that is a plus for OM. On the negative, OM has a decent defense, but to consistently stop TTU a team needs 4 above average covermen, you could say four starter-quality corners to stick on their man while the pass rush develops. The only team that accomplished this in 2008 was Oklahoma.

On offense, the Rebs have to score TDs and accumulate no less than 40 points. The rebs could do it...the TTU home uniform is black, but the defense is bright pink.

NU is better than Baylor but not much better. I think rebs have more motivation.
