Why even attend class now (in-person or online)? Build that into an NIL deal. Flunking a class? Uh-uh, not if I negotiate enough GPA mulligans in the NIL deal.

This system is so beyond a farce. I really will be surprised if I'm not done with college sports in 2-3 years. Hate to even think that, but this is not a sustainable business model . . . feels like the dot com era (or error) all over again, just a different venue.

I hope not. 700k upfront when the portal is still open is mind numbing dumb. But I doubt the “report”

"It's muh right to play college sports without being a student!"

It won't be long now before this argument is made.

I can tell you #1, #2, and #4 are in many deals. When I tell you our "NIL package" isn't up to snuff, it's not the money. It's all the other things.

I was telling someone earlier that I bet we refuse to give any of the incentives that the big boys do - visit fees, lump sums up front, cars, etc.

As we should. How many non WR pre madonnas are making these kinds of demands, though?

I think most of them ask for the fixings. Car(s), housing, housing for family, and travel expenses are the big ones.

Again, who is the *******? The guy that gets it or the ones that pay it. Everyone keeps talking about collective bargaining the athletes. Collect bargain the fans. The players holistically have no leverage. They can’t play in another league for this money. Until fans stop competing against each other in this dick measuring competition, the athletes have carte blanche and I can’t even fault them. Get your bag from the dumbasses kid.

Reminds me of the Dot Com era, when anything with .com received an outrageous multiple. 8 catches for 123 with 0 TD's is like a .com trading at 100x P/E.
This is the type of request / demand that starts to turn the tide and turn alumni off.

Right, and who is to blame? Pied Piper or Russ Hanneman for giving them 30 million dollars?

I’ve said for a while someone will sue for continued eligibility. To keep getting paid if they know they can’t make an nfl roster.

I say we steal from Rocky III. No perks. No NIL money. No nice facilities. Go back to where it all started. Nails to hang your equipment in the locker room. Two toilets in the middle with no lids, no seats, and one roll of toilet paper.

I don't blame the kids for asking but at some point, and I hope it's soon, they are going to get laughed out of the room. It's like a recent graduate who has contributed very little going to the boss and saying he wants $500k a year and a new BMW.

I’m gonna need 3 likes and at least 1 witty reply to every post I make. I also want at least 4 mentions in SPS The Magazine per season or I will be taking my talents to another message board. I have been contacted by multiple boards since entering the PTP, Poster Transfer Portal. Please respect my indecision!

There has to be a breaking point to this. When will rich alumni say no? Folks are crazy to pay money for this stuff.

17 that dude's family.
Sitting at lunch today, we had a brief conversation on nil and all. 6 people at the table. 4 said portal and nil wasn't good. 2 said it was. The 2... one has a kid playing in the acc. The other played for the Memphis tigers.

we (fans:alumni) are being cucked with all this.

That’s a new one. From what I’ve read it’s always been about the money. Time for all the other parrots to start chiming in that we don’t have a fleet of Cadillac’s like all the other schools. No one has single clue of what’s being paid or requested. So much of this crap is exaggerated. It’s all math and none of it adds up.

From your lips to God’s ears brotha. I’m hoping some of these people see the lunacy at throwing money at these players and the market corrects

You guys hating on free enterprise. The money is there or they would not be getting it.

Helluva way to transfer wealth if you ask me but college football is big business and the ones actually playing the game should be the ones getting paid. You don’t like that they get paid? Don’t watch and don’t contribute, that’s free enterprise too.

the system we have is messed up for sure but more people are watching, more teams are getting getting players, more parity exists because one team can’t hoard all the best players.

For the first time in my life, if one is wealthy enough, they can make their local institution of higher learning a national title contender.
Problem, you got to pay them players. Nice transfer of wealth happening.

you're right. If State was pulling kids from other sec schools and winning 10 games a year, threads would look different here. But we aren't.

They were already getting paid. But it wasn't good enough. I bet cha anything all these millions some are making now. Won't be good enough at some point too.

yep. People are watching. However I imagine less than 1% give to any kind of collective. Also we shall see on the parity. I bet cha the Final Four in the playoffs is 4 blue bloods. SMU, Boise and AzSt will lose their first games.

Also if they can't get this nil bribery under control, some schools (even p4) will
Opt out of the revenue share and be relegated to FCS. It's going to happen. Maybe not in a few years but in 5-10.

Yeah if you're a billionaire that wanted to own a pro franchise but haven't had the opportunity. Here is your chance. However for us alumni/fans that buy the bleacher seats, travel and buy on middle class income.... you contribution is a spec of sand. You can watch or 17 off. That's nice.

It’s a game. Don’t watch it.
Free enterprise at work. The world won’t end if States sucks at sports. There is plenty of evidence to the contrary.

personally, I didn’t watch a single game all year in full. Just too hard to watch but it’s because my team sucked not because they got paid. They always got paid but not at this level because it’s more money in it now.

State gets good, I will watch but otherwise, I will find something else to do. It’s just a damn game and the money is there or it’s not. I contribute some but less than I spend on you tube tv and certainly less than golf or other things.

But yet here you are caring enough to write on a message board dedicated to State sports. You don't like what's being written here, don't post. Don't read.

You seem to have the impression that this board exists because of Mississippi State sports. This place exists in spite of Mississippi State sports.
