Do we go after any Penn State Players? What are our needs?

So what are our needs?<div>
</div><div>I think we would want to get an O-Lineman, young QB to replace Scuessler(Bench), and maybe a safety. What do you guys think?</div><div>

If guys are going to jump in order to play for a new school in 2012, they've got to do it quickly. Generally that means you probably need an existing relationship with the player. I think the QB Bench is probably the only one. We recruited him out of high school, and we've since lost Favre and Schuessler. I figure we will be contacting him immediately. I doubt there will be any others unless we have a coach with a relationship. My guess is we play 2012 with no former Nittany Lions on our roster.

The circumstance sucks, but why not cash in on a player or two if we have room. I agree OL, QB, or LBshould be the focus.

I also appears as though picking up Penn State players will NOT count against the 85 scholarship limit.

Pretty sure it's still tampering to contact a player who is currently playing for another school. But I'm sure we could unofficially get the word out who we're interested in. This is going to bea free-for-all for the next month or so.

If we were to take one of their players and go to 86 for this year (12-13), we would be allowed to do that. However, we will have to be at 84 in the next season (13-14). That's what was on the twitter anyway.

Because if I'm an incoming freshman, I might not be able to find a scholarship in the next two weeks. I wonder if they can still transfer next spring.

The NCAA's sweeping sanctions leveled against Penn State have an immediate impact on the current roster as of Monday as well. In announcing the crippling four-year bowl ban and numerous scholarships losses, among other things, the association also announced relaxed transfer policies for current Nittany Lions players.

Among the notable exceptions current football student-athletes will see:

•Players will not have to sit out a year if they decide to transfer, they will be eligible immediately at their new school.
•All incoming class of 2012 signees can be released from their letters of intent.
The permission to contact rules regarding current players will be suspended. Penn State can't restrict a player from transferring and all the player has to do is notify Penn State of their intent to transfer. Other schools must simply inform the PSU athletic department of their intention to talk to a transfer as well.
•All signees and current players may take as many official or unofficial visits as they want during the 2012-13 academic year.
Perhaps most interesting is the fact that the NCAA is "considering" waiving scholarship limits for programs to which the football players are transferring to. This would circumvent the limit of 25 signees and 85 total players for the upcoming year.

If they got a guy that has punched through some big field goals, he might be the best pickup anyone could get. Doesn't need to learn a system, just come in and do his thing.

I'm going to assume most of their roster is northeastern guys that are looking to stay in the area or Big 10. Probably a better strategy to focus all efforts on current recruiting unless something just falls into our lap.
