Yeah. All that talent and he didn't win a tournament game since 2019.

For all of Pope's failures so far this year, he went to the Sweet 16 in his 1st year.
Your absolutely correct. Lets judge him without any super seniors and the team he personally constructed for 22 million.

Absolutely not. It was time for Calipari and Kentucky to part ways. Even if this Pope experiment doesn't work, we can find another good coach.

Of course not. A change was long overdue.

It remains to be seen if the new hire was the correct one though. I said any non drunk wins a title at UK. Pope might want to start trying harder if he wants to win a title. IMO

You didn’t say he had a losing record. You said he didn’t win.

Has nothing to do with Pope

Not true though. Convenient that the ‘20 team that won the SEC by 3 games didn’t get to play.

Still, the facts are off. He did win a game in ‘23

You're.

I was under the impression he personally constructed last year's team too. With less money.

And we're 5 games into this season. God knows we've seen Calipari teams crap the bed in November. Call me when Pope loses to Evansville.

If you want to slam Pope after tonight, by all means, go for it. But this doesn't vindicate Cal.

Nope, last I checked, he was behind in his game against mighty Winthrop tonight. He may win that game but he was behind well into the 2nd half.

I miss the Cal from 2010 to 2020. Its sad it had to end the way it did. The other interesting thing, Cals young rosters really couldn't handle that extra COVID year (he had other reasons why he tanked in later years).. but I think that really made the difference not just for him but alot of other teams.. those few years it felt like the added experience was what won games. Rosters that have played together for half a decade. Now that thats over, were seeing a very strong freshman resurgence. I think theres some relation there

How you feeling?

You’re stupid as hell. Hell no I don’t miss that washed up Charlatan. He’s at Arkansas in no man’s land because he sucks and nobody wanted him. He’s brand less now. a no name program.

Pope working might not happen but the next one will, and we still don’t know about this. But Kentucky usually makes the right follow up hire after a bad one. Check your historical notes.

Cal was great until he wasn’t. It was time to move on. It was time for him to retire. Plus he nixed his promise about not coaching into his 60s. In an alternative timeline Calipari is our AD or GM and we have someone else as coach.

He could’ve retired and remained a beloved former coach but he chose to leave for another job when he’s old enough to collect Social Security.

Also point out that losing to St. Peters was in large part our guards being injured. Grady was in pain just walking. And UK was considered one of the hottest teams going into the tournament. Probably walk to an E8 if Oscar has his guards at full strength.

I say that because now that Cal is gone, we see another coach who has to deal with his guard being out, and you can see just how drastically it changes things.

Sure, I miss the 2009-2015 version of Cal. I wish he had the same passion for his last 5 years at UK as he has right now. But I don't miss the 2020-2024 Calipari AT ALL. The only thing I miss is that he pretty much always had at least 2 superstars, NBA types, on every team. I don't miss his coaching. Let him recruit for me, let Pope coach them.

Moving on from Cal was right. His time was done here.

Oats should have been the move after, not Pope.

I just looked at the poll and “yes”is winning but nobody is coming forth and saying they miss Cal. I find that interesting. I miss Cal. At least he has character, Pope is boring.

I don't really see how we'd be in a stronger position given that Cal's teams at Arkansas haven't really been a step in the right direction after his last season at UK. Good chance we'd be what Arkansas was last year and what they are this year.

It was time for Cal to go. Definitely find it funny how people were so quick to act like he never was worth a **** and thought pope was a sure thing.
