Do we move up in the rankings with a close loss at Bama?

In a fair world we should.

USC loses to Stan
UGA lost BIG and will lose Sat
ND sucks and will lose Sat big

A win obviously vaults us but the reason that we aren't ahead of those listed is "because we haven't played anyone". So if we play Bama close the whole way and lose by 3 or something shouldnt we be viewed ahead of those, including Oregon state

Yes, if we put a severe scare in them and lose then I think we will move up.

My question: How far do we go up when we beat Alabama?

Who has a better case for #3, if we win this?

I can see Florida and K State's case for 1 and 2. I'm having a hard time seeing anyone elses.

If we win, only Florida would have a potential claim based on their resume, having beaten UGA, A&M, USCe, and LSU. But we'll beheld back by one of the most important factors considered by voters, preseason ranking. Who know why they consider preseason ranking relevant, but they do.

Did you daddy teach you it was okay if you lost because you would still get a sportsmanship trophy!?!?!?

I hate this type of attitude and it is ******** like you that are a great example of a fanbase of losers!

Win or go home! 2nd is first place loser! If we lose we should drop out of the top 25 rankings in my opinion, even if we lost by a single point after leading 59 minutes and 59 seconds of the game! WE LOSE WE SUCK! WE WIN WE MOVE UP! PERIOD END OF DISCUSSION! ANY QUESTIONS?

We don't move up, but don't tumble either.

Keep it within a touchdown and I think we actually get a little bit of respect. Bottom line, if we go toe to toe and keep it a game, then more people watch (e.g., "Upset Alert" on ESPN, etc.) There are plenty of one loss teams above us that have lost to much worse teams and don't have that many awesome wins. Simply put, State has to play like it is a top 10 team regardless.

We definitely won't move up in the rankings. We would most likely fall and fall further than most simply due to the notion that our "easy early-year schedule" was the only thing that propelled us so high in the in the rankings. We don't have the luxury of namesake like a Georgia team that could absorb a loss and still remain highly favored in the polls.

We should be 4 or 5 with a win. 15ish with a loss. But I honestly feel good about the game Saturday.

If we win, we should be #1. PERIOD. End of discussion. All I've heard all 17ing year is how unbeatable and robotic this 17ing Bama team is. If we beat them in Tuscaloosa at their own 17ing homecoming, we should get nothing less than ALL the 17ing 1st place votes. I'm so tired about hearing how this Bama team doesn't have let downs, etc., etc. They are a group of 17ing 18-22 year old young men. Not the 17ing Borg. We are in their own damn conference and the way it's presented, this would be an Appalachian St. over Michigan type upset. Give me a 17ing break.

We don't need them to have a let down. We are good enough to beat them straight up. If we don't believe that, then we should shutter the 17ing program.

17 Bama. 17 a bowl game.

I think we'd fall to about 14 with a close loss, 18-20th with a large loss to Bama. Then if we lose to A&M, we'd fall out.

It is not fair to say that ND sucks

They have not lost. Maybe they were expected to be undefeated at this point but to say that they suck is an overstatement. Brian Kelly is a good coach and the players have bought into his philosophy and they are winning because of it. It worked at Cincy, it's working in South Bend.

But to answer your question, I don't think we will move up. A loss is a loss and from the way the media/coaches have loved us so far, moving up is unlikely. We may not drop back very far (outside the top 20) but moving up is out of the question to the voters.
