Do we need a permanent intro music?

i was hoping we would collectively go a more modern/cutting edge route, but i expected some of these responses. i think we need to focus on hyping the student section a la south carolina.

if its something the alumni (40, 50, 60 somethings) take neighborhood walks to or listen to as they contemplate how they can live the more complete "yall lifestyle" i think its missing the mark.

its asking a lot to tailor a song for the students (a more youthful lean in song selection), especially considering that half of them wont be there after 2 and a half quarters, but, they could provide the energy. its hard to coordinate a hype video to some (not all) of these suggestions, much make a stadium electric. we can do better.

if you were really the one in charge of merzik, tell us what your instructions are and what your directives are regarding what they want you to play.

the '09 season, our music was pretty solid. some of our better atmospheres were that season if i remember correctly.

some music can just murder a crowd, much like the ads they love to jam down our throats.

I can see us using these two songs. They constantly mention the word "Fight!" which we used on our promo video Derek Cody made. And yes, I know the band name is odd, but listen to the songs and watch the lyrics. They will pump you up for a game. They are about fighting and settling a score and the other one is going down.

Sick Puppies- War: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DTTxtneonq8 (This one yells Fight! Fight! Fight! and I think would be a good intro song for us)
Sick Puppies- You're Going Down: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLrxT8Vu978 (Make sure to listen to it around 1:58 in but the rest of the song is awesome)

Agreed wholeheartedly on using Hail to the King by Avenged Sevenfold. Such a freaking awesome song.

I do also think the 2009 season (I saw we had the DJ from that year in this thread) that when we had Yung Jeezy "Put On" that was the most pumped I've ever been for a game at the Florida game. Awesome song choice.

We could use a Disturbed-Stricken: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3moLkjvhEu0

Lastly, the Enter Sandman that VA Tech uses is awesome and a freaking awesome intro song, as you are probably familiar.

I know some of these hard rock songs may not work but I really feel those two by Sick Puppies actually fit the Fight idea and that the other team is going down. "You're Going Down" we should play against Auburn because we are out for revenge for last year and one mentions something not happening in a long time (aka beat LSU).

Hope you guys like these.

Geek USA

Saw this thread on ED and thought it was important enough to get a consensus. i prefer avoiding the tired old music that doesnt get anyone hyped, so i tend to lean towards the modern stuff. our luck, we will probably end up with some kenny chesney song. as much as i have listened to acdc, it isnt getting anyone excited. keep in mind, it needs to sync up with images of the football team in slow-mo, have tempo, no explicit lyrics, etc...The main thing, it needs to be high-energy.

here are a few worth considering:

If the Intro Music isn't smashing pumpkin's Geek USA....I'll be devastated.

I was trying to bite my tongue, or fingers as it were, and trying to keep an open mind. For, honestly, it isn't about the players, alone, getting hyped. It isn't about the fans, alone, getting hyped. Yet, it IS more about the fans getting hyped that the team feeds off of. The team gets hyped when the fans do & vice versa. Consider VT: Do you really think those players identify with Metallica? No, but the beat is good, and the fan interaction is phenomenally better.

I'm not a fan of Avenged Sevenfold (sp?). The only thing I'm aware of that I've heard from them is in this thread...twice. I have to say that it's apt. It's not perfect, but it's apt. That song "could" become something signature to State.

I haven't made it through the entirety of this tread just yet, but SanfordRJones, your post/links forced me to stop.

The two links you posted ARE "nu-metal." No, I'm not trying to get into semantics and I know this post is getting into Shomoan (sp?) or Esplanade (sp?) type lengths.

But, THIS is Heavy Metal:

Would it work for a State-specific intro? Probably not. Yet, I think my point is proven.

I LOVE what Rabidawg (sp?) added to the table.

Neither of those bands are anywhere close to nu metal. Meshuggah is extreme technical metal and Behemoth is blackened death metal. Here is an example of nu metal, which sucks and sounds absolutely nothing like either of my links.

You saying Behemoth and Meshuggah aren't metal because they don't sound like Iron Maiden is like saying The Police aren't rock because they don't sound like Elvis. Music evolves over the course of 30 years.

"Bad Little Doggie" by Gov't Mule

Refers to dogs, rocks hard, plenty of punctuations to show videos of Matt Wells blowing people up and Calhoun bodyslamming mother17ers
