There is a cancer on the team. Whoever that is, most likely Oweh, needs to be kicked off the team.Do you support the players?
At this point it’s getting hard to imagine what else could possibly be making us all look so disconnected and shell-shocked.Everyone got mad about that being discussed but honestly, why would it be a shock the way we play? We don’t play like a unit at all.
I’d love to see an epic battle between Kenny Payne and Pope for who sucks worse.
I’m kinda questioning wether those guys just likes each other so much they could play without a coaching staff now.cmon man. I know we’re upset, but Payne won 12 games in 2 seasons. Pope got a 3 seed last year. Lol
Yet this option still presents Pope in a negative light because he is still the coach, is he not? If he has a few bad apples, bench them. If it's Oweh, bench him. If it's Johnson, bench him. Pitino was willing to lose with guys who listened to him in a tournament game than potentially win guys who didn't last year, so much so that he benched his star RJ Luis.Mentioned this before the game.. but it is possible this was just a bad bad year. Which doesnt mean hes excused.. but if we had some bad apples, because we couldn't get the top recruits (either because of Pope, because of Mitch, or both).. then that could spoil any team.
As bad as we are right now, he did a lot of things right last year, and he did it with a team that isnt much more talented on paper. This could just be a truly bad collection of players and egos.
That said, this is such a bad year that hed have to win a final4 next year and do a complete 180 to save his job IMO. If he even IS here next year, it has to be a remarkable turn around.
I dont disagree. I guess im trying to find an avenue where this year is just an abberation for him.. but it doesn't seem likely.Yet this option still presents Pope in a negative light because he is still the coach, is he not? Pope doesn't have that in him, and that's precisely why he shouldn't be here another year. He's letting the bad apples dictate the mood of the team. That's poison.
I don’t know why you keep saying he’s coming back, especially if he has a losing season. If fans are as p*ssed off as they were shown tonight, how do you imagine the guys who are paying for this must feel? The fans, the media, former players are all coming out negatively towards this coaching tenure. Another year will make Pope and Mitch the Nico Harrisons of Lexington and the state of Kentucky.Barnhart is willing to let a coach go in year 2. We have already seen that before. I think the situation is very different here though. If last year was a stinker, Pope would be getting papers. Last year exceeded expectations. He will get a fiery hot seat year three —- I believe that’s a very rational observation, even though the anger at 11 is 100% justified.
Well, apparently I’m gonna have to start providing disclaimers on my posts since I get people @ing me over my opinions.I don’t know why you keep saying he’s coming back, especially if he has a losing season. Pope doesn’t come back with a losing record. I thought an NIT might screw him over, but a losing record solidifies it and with every loss to a half-decent team it looks like an inevitability barring a miracle at this point.
Boosters will be the one footing the bill here. If they’re livid after the $20 million, they’ll gladly raise whatever it takes to get Pope to leave. But I have a feeling boosters and friends will be encouraged him to step down on his own. No big recruits coming next year and probably looking at replacing most of the team won’t make many people willing to extend this disaster longer than it has to be, imo.Well, apparently I’m gonna have to start providing disclaimers on my posts since I get people @ing me over my opinions.
Disclaimer: THIS IS MY OPINION. I HAVE NO HAND IN DECIDING WHETHER POPE IS RETAINED OR NOT
With that in mind, we just dropped nuclear bags to move on from Stoops. That already puts you in a bind. Also, anyone judging fairly can see this year looks nothing like last year. So, my guess is the athletic department is not going to let the coach go for a bad year this year if last year showed promise and overachieved. Those are just my opinions. I don’t speak on behalf of the university and I’m too depressed to argue over menial things atm, so if you were asking in a rhetorical fashion, so be it. If you were asking genuinely what my thoughts are, there they are.
Ok. So you are of the view that Pope is getting replaced this year?Boosters will be the one footing the bill here. Even when Cal was slipping, you had that thought that he could excel at any time or tournament. I don’t think anyone feels that way about Pope.I think the reason he might only last 2 years is because he has no equity built up. You can have a few down years if youre like Cal because you won a bunch of final 4s and be the most successful program over a 5 or 6 year stretch (well, you should be fine). He built himself a runway. Pope doesnt have that at all. And his coaching is so bad its really making people wonder "was this a total disaster hire?" .. and if it is, you have to cut bait and fast.
This cant be a "let's give him 3 or 4 years to go going. You sharpen your knives one someone's else's time, then you come here to coach.
