More than 25 percent of the team from last Jan. 1 is gone. Nobody believes in HCNB. This is a sinking sink. A lost cause.

Definitely not a good sign but it’s also not as if we are seeing a bunch of first rounders bolting for the exit. They went 6-7 for a reason, so I would think the coaching staff is openly telling them they are going to be bringing in competition from the portal if they are staying.

Things look bleak, we just bombed in a pivotal year for this regime, and because of an ill advised extension we are stuck with them for another year. This coaching staff has to pull a rabbit out of the hat to save their careers, so expect a ton of transfers.

Maybe you would feel better with an all freshmen team each year lol.

It depends on the situation, a 6-6 team with mostly freshmen I would rather see stay intact but that’s not what we saw. In 2021 we had a bad offense and a slightly above average defense. There are some guys who we would like to see stay, but an overhaul isn’t the end of the world for an underachieving team. In most normal scenarios Brown would be out, but the phantom huge extension is going to keep him here for another year, so hope we can make some upgrades with the new portal rules.

You do realize that his payout after next year is about 20 million? Btw...you never played the game...outside of your back yard...have you lol?

All I know is Brown is staying next year, if he flops again then the financial burden of keeping him vs cutting bait will be reevaluated.

Played HS ball, not sure what you’re getting at. Unless you’re an ex NFLer or coach or something then I don’t really care what your playing pedigree was. I know people that played college ball that couldn’t name last year’s Super Bowl or national champion.

He is a ******* idiot that uses a tired line of you "you never played organized <insert sport here>" as an insult or way of avoiding any substantive discussion when he doesn't like the facts.

He'd never accept the same logical fallacy with regards to say his criticism of political office. Can't complain about Brandon if you never ran for a major executive branch political position.

Which is why it is so puzzling that Kneel wouldn't give anybody else a real shot.
This was my point all year long. I knew that Doege was not coming back next after the Maryland game and felt like being bowl eligible would be an amazing accomplishment.

I just had a feeling that Doege would be phased out until Neal said in a press conference his best players were his wide receivers and Doege could get them the ball (which he couldn’t.)

I admire Neal not throwing his QB under the bus and his loyalty, but benching Doege would not have created any indication that Neal is not behind his teammates. It was long overdue. I just hope Neal told him to move on. If he didn’t, we are in bad shape regarding our head coach.

The biggest tell to Doege's ability will be where he ends up. He was 2 and half (or 3, I don't remember, kneel's tenure as been a blur) year starter at a respectable P5 with historic pedigree. A casual fan would certainly put WVU with the Wisconsins and VPIs and OK Sts and Washingtons (though I'm afraid we're a bit behind those programs) on name recognition alone.

I'd bet my house that Doege doesn't end up at a comparable program. My guess is a place like Akron or Tulsa. If a program like that is able to say "We've got Jarret Doege, formerly a 2 year starter at WVU, under center..." then you'll know the entire country knew that he wasn't up to muster.

Agreed, but he may transfer somewhere as a backup to complete a masters or something. Remember when Chugs transferred to Ohio State despite not being a viable starter here. He is 100% transferring down in some way shape or form, either to backup at a P5 for academic reasons, or to the MAC or CUSA to keep chasing the dream. Either way I wish him well, not being good enough doesn’t make him a bad kid, and he did seem to work hard. I thought he showed good character by keeping the team together and rallying to get to 6-6 even when a ton of guys were eyeing the portal.

Doege just playing FBS football makes him elite amongst the general populace. Problem is that is not his competition. "Power 5" college football is second only to the NFL in terms of elite status which is why at QB and head coach there are usually only a handful of people in the country at any given time that can do either of those things well. There is no shame in not being one of those few.
