Does a Texas win over TCU help or hurt MSU?...

Yes. I think TCU has the better overall resume (hence the higher current ranking). Baylor is the lowest 1-loss team.

If TCU beats Texas, Baylor has Big 12 outright title. Discuss.

That just shows how messed up it is to count conference championship as a significant factor. Why should TCU losing impact the strength of Baylor's resume positively or negatively? If they lose, Baylor's win over them is that much less impressive, but it makes going through the conference schedule with only one lass a little more impressive. It seems like it should be a wash.

I'm torn over this, but I think the most beneficial game to us more than anything is the Arky- Mizzou game. We NEED Arkansas to beat Mizzou. We need other teams that we've beat to improve our resume moreso than the Big 12. I would rather both TCU and Baylor lose or both of them tie as co-champions.

Absolutely helps. They play a 9-game Big 12 schedule plus beat a ranked Minnesota team OOC. Baylor is more likely to be bumped out because while they also play a 9-game Big 12 schedule, they have the weak OOC and lost by 2 touchdowns to a team that got beaten by the team that beat us. We have every tie-breaker there.

The ooc thing is such a crapshoot. When we schedules usm they were better than half the p5 teams out there and even finished 21 in the 2011 bcs.

When tcu scheduled minn im sure they thought that would be a cupcake of sorts.

Obviously I would prefer Baylor and TCU both lose. But at this point I'm all-in on wanting TCU to lose. I'm rooting for Baylor to win out unless TCU loses first. I think that if TCU wins the Big 12 outright at 11-1, they will pass us up for #4. Their resume is much stronger than Baylor and Ohio State. Unless that happens, I think we are in if we win the Egg Bowl by 7 or more.

Definitely helps us. 11-1 TCU is a serious threat to us if the top 5 win out. Baylor and OSU are just media fodder. Any bump Baylor might get for not having a co-champ who they beat h2h would be miniscule. The net impact for Baylor would be negative. Suddenly a fluky win at home against TCU doesn't look that much better than our best win, whoever that winds up being. Baylor desperately needs to have a marquee win to counter that loss to WVU.

Better questions might be 1) whether Baylor losing hurts MSU? Does TCU winning B12 outright outweigh the fact that their loss is then not on a par with our loss?

And 2) looking ahead, could MSU actually need OSU to beat Minnesota if they upset Wisconsin? Is B10 Champ OSU (with half of ESPN behind it) more of a threat than a TCU team that has a win over the B10 Champ?

You have to be judged on who you actually played. This idea that ESPN pushes about rewarding teams for playing challenging nonconference schedules is utter ******** for the exact reason you noted. Was TCU even in the B12 when they scheduled Minnesota? Did you play a good team? Did you beat them? That's what matters. You shouldn't get bonus points for scheduling them.

Helps...

It's crazy to just assume on the front end that Baylor escapes Kansas St, who has the best D in the Big12. Baylor struggled offensively against two top-end B12 defenses so far, with sub 400yd games against West Va and Texas...

if both state and tcu win out evenly, it does nothing for tcu. tcu needs to boatrace texas and we need a 3-2 ugly win.

if texas beats tcu, it will help osu move up, only to have wisconsin wipe them off

That is crazy to think about.

Good thing GT and UCLA are going to make all of this moot.

When you stack up TCU's schedule next to ours, we're actually pretty similar. The conference champ bump really could give them the edge. It really should be talked about more that TCU would be in the exact same position as MSU if the Big 12 had divisions. They would be co-champs to a team they lost to on the road in a close game. Baylor would represent the Big 12 South against the North. In some respects I wonder if that won't help diminish the value of being a conference champ in the committee's eyes.

If TCU gets in over us it will be because they were 1b in a 10 team league, while we are 1b in a 14 team league. That's just ********.

It may be crazy talk, but doesn't a Texas win over TCU combined with a Kansas State win over Baylor give Kansas State the Big 12 title outright? I think, in this scenario, that K-State would have 1 Big 12 loss at the end (assuming they also beat Kansas) and TCU and Baylor would each have two Big 12 losses. It may be a little far-fetched, but it would be great for us.

Also, currently, the SEC West has more bowl eligible teams than the entire Big 12.
