mean that, deep down, Alabama fans haven't given up on The Bear yet, and therefore haven't fully embraced Saban as his replacement? Everywhere you look in Alabama there are black and white checks. Looks like they would have abandoned that tradition once Saban showed up and proved himself.

Saban ain't bear yet... after My Dark Lord rolls off a 3rd consecutive BCSNC in 2013, we will forgo houndstooth, wear neat little Borg Laser masks, rename the stadium "The Cube", and chop up Bear's statue and use the chunks as trotline weights.

Saban could win 20 championsips and they would never give up the houndstooth.

Although I hate the sight of houndstooth, it's tradition, and it's unique to Alabama. They will keep it forever. And living in Birmingham, the topic of Saban vs Bear comes up on talk radio more often than you would think. I don't think I've ever heard a Bama fan say Saban is better than Bear, but they believe one or two more championships will be enough to get them thinking about it.

I don't remember seeing too much houndstooth in Tuscaloosa until fairly recently. I think what caused it to blow up was when one of Shula's teams replaced the white collars on their jerseys with it.
