only LSU and Georgia had more players drafted in the first 10 rounds than Kentucky as far as the SEC. If you make it the first 11 rounds, then only LSU had more players drafted.

Something to chew on.

Through 10 rounds:

LSU - 5
Ole Miss - 3
Georgia - 3
Kentucky - 2
Tennessee - 2
Vanderbilt - 2
Arkansas - 2
South Carolina - 2
Florida - 1
Alabama - 1
Auburn - 1
Mississippi State - 0

Kind of a strange barometer you're using. So only 3 teams had more players drafted through 10 rounds than Kentucky, but Kentucky was either tied or beaten by 7 other teams. In a 12 team league, that's pretty average. Congrats.

"Cohen left Kentucky almost in worse shape than he found it"

Some other Ol Blew favorites:

"Les Miles won't win 10 games in 2007"- LSU won the BCS championship

"a coordinator from a top school won't give State the time of day in football"- State hires the OC from the national champions

But the man can post a picture of a hottub as good as anyone

the length of the draft, or the fact that there are people still following the draft after 1800 picks?

I dont' get that. especially when everyone took shots at what Cohen left at KY.

So the stat changes to, through 10 rounds, only 3 teams had more drafted, through 11, only LSU had more drafted.

If you look at the amount of players that sign after the 40th round, they're basically taking fliers on guys like Ricky Bowen and HS kids that are probably going to college.

In general, most teams have 5 rookie ball teams.

One team is for players that are more developed- ie college players (For example New York-Penn League)

One team is for players that are less developed- ie high school players, junior college players, a few college players that are somewhat raw, some Latinos. (Appalachain League)

One team is going to be based at their spring training facility and is for guys that are raw and long range projects, some Latinos. (AZL league)

One team will be based in the Dominican, and those teams are basically 16-17 year old kids. As they get older, they will progress and in 7-8 years when they are 23-24 they will be MLB ready if all goes well.

One team is based in Venezuela, and is a Venezuelan version of it's Dominican cousin.

So, you're talking about stocking 3 teams with draft picks. Just guessing, an average MLB team probably signs 30-35 picks a year give or take a few. I want to say a minor league roster is 25 players or so, and with the Latino players and free agents, who are guys that didn't get drafted at all, they should be able to reasonably stock their farm with 35 draft picks. And then there are a select few guys that are good enough to start out in A ball or AA, like Strasburg might do.

it showed that Kentucky was pretty much up there with every other team in the conference in terms of top draft picks.

Im not trying to argue they had the best talent in America. And I wasn't trying to argue that they had more picks than all those other teams. And that's the point, as much hell as Cohen has caught about KY, he had 3 guys drafted in the first 11 rounds off a team that didn't have that many draft eligible players.

If someone read it and thought "damn, Kentucky had more players drafted in the first 10 rounds than Tennessee", then they don't know how to read.

and it makes the exact point I was trying to make.

But for those that are so hung up on semantics, here:

Except for 3 teams, KY had as many or more players taken in the first 10 rounds than all other SEC schools. Except for 1 team, KY had as many or more players takent through the first 11 rounds.

My point is still the same.

I think, correct me if I'm wrong,

1. is show a few people here, namely Ol Blew (and a couple more) that Kentucky wasnt left in shambles as they tried to get everyone to believe.
2. show people that Belhaven having more draft picks than us at one point shows what Cohen had to work with his 1st season at State.

And if you'll notice, since the draft, Ol Blew hasnt been posting his usual wealth of message board nuggetts.
