There has been some message board speculation that Cameron may reunite with former Florida offensive coordinator, Dan Mullen, at his new post at Mississippi State.

<span class="storybody">"Dan is a good friend of mine," reported Cecil. "I am real happy for him. I didn't think he would get that job so soon. We would strongly consider them as an option. We are fond of Dan and Cameron is fond of Dan. Dan is fond of Cam. That may have the makings of a good marriage, but we aren't going to limit ourselves.</span></p>

<span class="storybody">"Something may happen there at Mississippi State where Dan looks to go in another direction for a quarterback and things may happen that cause us to consider another direction."</span></p>

<span class="storybody">While Newton should be a hot commodity between now and the end of the calendar year, there appear to be no early favorites.</span></p>

<span class="storybody">"It's just so early right now, we don't want to get the cart before the horse," said Cecil. "I just want Cameron focused on what he has to take care of and then we'll see how things stand later.

He will be at MSU. We'll see if that actually happens, but it's what I was told. Would he play QB?

I know he would have to sit out a year, but he could be in our program learning the offense moreso than he does now. He could get hurt or not perform in the JUCO ranks. I just do not understand why players like this are so quick to go the juco route.

in December makes him that much more valuable. If, and I know it's a big if, we are able to red shirt Tyler this year it will be nice to have someone with Cameron's ability and experience on campus for Spring. Lord knows we don't want to go into 2010 with Relf as our only "experienced" QB.

Plus, the JUCO route negates the original school's ability to dictate which institution they're willing to release the player to.

he would probably have to promise him the starting job, as evidenced by his dad being crazy involved and his transfer from Florida, even after he made comments at his signing about how he didn't mind playing behind Tebow. Mullen and Cecil Newton appear to be friends, and especially if Tyler Russell plays this year, he will be none to happy to have newton come in and walk right into being the starter. this sort of thing does not play out too well at schools like Msu. USC and Georgia types seems to get away with it, but the Newtons couldn't even handle it at florida, so who knows. I say we stay away from him and go get two HS QBs, it appears that's how it will have to go, esp. if Russell plays this year and then Next year, Relf can back him up while the other two hopefully redshirt, at least one of them. if we do recruit him, he should not in the least offer him the job, unless russell just sucks at practice or something. Too many people are banking on Tyler Russell it seems.

Yeah... we're MSU... How dare we ever consider having two quarterbacks that have SEC caliber talent.

No way.. If anyway we can get him we have to.. he is too valuable to pass up.. QBs his caliber aren't exactly lined up to come to MSU...

Florida often played two quaterbacks. Besides I would not want a quarterback that is scared to come to a school because of competition. If Cam Newton would not sign with MSU because there is a chance that Russell might beat him out for playing time then he needs to go somewhere else.

This makes my head spin. I knew this was going to happen. I just didn't expect somebody bring it up on this board. It's obvious that our fans our brainwashed into sucktitude.

Look, Newton is going to look at the QB's on the roster before he makes a decision. If he wants to go to MSU, then you make room for him and get him a shot - he's SEC starting QB talent. If you turn down that talent, you aren't doing your job and you should be fired - simple as that. Just because we haven't had a QB worth a **** in years doesn't mean you turn down a second quality SEC QB if he falls in your lap. You said it yourself "too many people are banking on Tyler Russell" - that's exactly why you go after Newton. What if Tyler sucks? Newton plays. What if he doesn't? Newton backs him up - NOT Relf or some other scrub. Win/win.

I seriously can't believe somebody would actually suggest passing on Newton because of a QB that hasn't even made it to campus and practiced yet. It's only a matter of time before the sheep baaah about how recruiting Newton might hurt Tyler's feelings and we have obligations to coddle him because he committed to MSU first or some ******** like that.

The mindset of our fan base makes me want to hang myself.

too many people are banking on russell. i'm not saying he's going to be terrible, but if he's not what you expected (or hoped for), you don't want to be left standing with the cupboard empty behind him.

for spring practice. No need to sign a good QB last year because we had Tyler Russell and Chris Garrett coming in this fall.
