Lane Kiffin had completely changed his public image into the softer kinder mature Lane. Reconciled with ex wife, got a dog, living in a town he loved wax more important than more money elsewhere. Then in less that a year he’s public enemy #1 in all of college football. He’s a good coach, but damn dies he have some mental health issues.

Sure do, and kinda was rooting for the fella.......and then a few months later, found out is was not his dog, just a marketing ploy (otherwise known as a lie). Agreed on his mental health issues.......me thinks full blown narcissist that thinks he does no wrong

There was no need to bring dogs into this. Don't mess with dogs. Be kind to dogs

If you separate the Ole Miss part of this.......I cannot fathom why he made this move. It's absolute absurdity to me.

- He had a national championship caliber team;
- All the family things you mentioned, including his kids having roots there;
- He had a blank check at Ole Miss, for NIL and his own pay;
- He had built a program, yeah OM isn't LSU, but I mean they proved they were right there;
- He doesn't fit LSU culture, like at all.....while he was perfect for Ole Miss.

I really just don't get it. There were plenty of better times to leave - he picked the absolute worst one. There has to be more to the story.......like some sort of disdain for Ole Miss/Oxford.

Everything I’ve read about Kiffin, he believes he can be a Saban type coach that wins multiple national titles and dominates the sport for a decade…. But I think he believes he needs to be at a blue blood to do that.

All that said, his butt would probably leave LSU high and dry too if Bama or Texas comes calling.

He did not have a national championship caliber team. He was always going to leave when he could get a job at a place he could win a national title.

That makes it even more puzzling. Had he won the title last year, he'd have been younger than Saban.

He fits at Texas. So he should have stuck around a little longer at Ole Miss, then jumped to there or Florida. LSU and Bama just don't fit his schtick, and I think that will be borne out eventually. Look how much of a cluster17 it already is in BR.

OK man. Lost by 4 points to Miami who lost by 6 points to Indiana. I don't think some of you realize how dangerous last year was.

I'm sure you'll say the Georgia win was a fluke. Well, they nearly beat them in Athens during the regular season. That's the reality.

I just don’t think he believed his ceiling at OM was high enough. Which is a little puzzling considering that Indiana just won the whole thing and OM averaged just under 10 wins a year his last 5 seasons there.

But also I think the ceiling at LSU is definitely higher. I guess the key difference is you might can win one national title at Ole Miss, but building a dynasty would probably be easier at LSU.

I’m actually with you on this. And also think their 2024 team was possibly better than the 2025 team but they screwed around and lost to Kentucky and Florida teams they had no business losing to.

ESPN did that documentary which was basically Kiffin image repair and OM people bought it hook line and sinker.

Meanwhile, I think anyone with a brain realizes that was the first indication he was ready to get out of Oxford. Polishing up the resume so LSU or Florida could take him.

Yes, I remember the public perception. But it was only that - a perception. Raisin one's salary by 50% can be a reason to redirect one's thoughts. However - there is something to be said about living in Oxford vs Baton Rouge (as much as we give OM a hard time, the town is a lot more pleasant than BR).
With the amount of money he is making he can have a pleasant life pretty much anywhere.

He hasn’t changed one bit. He was always the same guy. OM knew it and did media spin and created a fake dog to make him seem different . I don’t let any of them forget how they loved him and Juice. ..he had a great team he caught lightening in a bottle with Chambliss. But he also knows LSU has a higher ceiling. I’m glad he left …and OM fans can suck it. They loved him, begged him to stay went to the plane and yelled for Charlie and Lane. F them I hope he boat races them Saturday.

Lane is Lane. OM as a fanbase does this incredibly weird thing when it comes to worshipping football coaches. They did the same thing with Hugh and ignored everything that said he was a pos and attacked anyone who noticed the obvious. Ran every media story they could to make him CFB Jesus. They essentially did the same with Lane, just leaned in to a different angle (reformed family man). Then when it blows up and they leave, then a million stories about their POS actions surface and everyone actually knew the whole time.

Outside of Saban at Bama, I don't think any fanbase in the country is as cultish about the football coach.

I think it's pretty simple, he wanted to be the coach of a blue blood again. Ole Miss, despite what they think, is not a blue blood. LSU is. Being the head coach at a blue blood stokes his ego. Being the head coach at Ole Miss did not. He always viewed it as a stepping stone. I've been following him since his assistant days at SC. This came as no suprise.

Lane is the wrestling heel of college football coaches…

The closest comparison right now might be Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase but we’ll see who he will be next…

The point is not that LSU is not a blue blood and easier to win at than Ole Miss. It's that LSU was the wrong blue blood for Kiffin.

That's as "right there" as right there gets, and right at the dawning of an era where you don't have to be at a blue blood to do it -- only have to be at one willing to pay for it -- and there are none more clearly willing to pay for it than OM. I'm predicting he's overshot his landing - that OM was the place he was meant to make a year-in, year-out NC contender come to be.

The joy I get from OM's butt-hurt over Lane is of the misery-loves-company variety. The harsh truth is that the system will never allow either program to have sustained success. The joy is that they thought they'd risen above that and now they get to see that they've peaked and this is it. They'll never go as high as 2025 again, it was their absolute zenith. Welcome back to the cellar. You've cosplayed as a real college football contender for a few years, then a big boy came and took your toy and Saturday they're going to make you like it.

He is a perfect fit for them. He was not a perfect fit at UM. He doesn't have to project an image at LSU. They don't care. He did have to at UM.

I don't think the Ole Miss people ever realized it. What I am curious about is how much of that was driven by Ole Miss and how much was driven by his team? Seemed like Ole Miss was doing a lot of heavy lifting on that thinking somehow they were helping Ole Miss.

I don't think it would have mattered. LSU would have hired him if he kept on being his real self. But if he had been his real self it may have given some of the schools that like to pretend they have standards pause, and it seems like Ole Miss was basically helping market him to those programs without thinking about it.

I don't think it's more pleasant as a football coach. You're in a fishbowl in Oxford when you're the coach. Baton Rouge presumably isn't much better, but being bigger does likely make that slightly better. I guess it's better in that you have lower expectations and aren't going to have people griping at you for a 9-3 season.

LSU needs a strong personality to keep folks in check (I mean look at Jeff Landry). Very similar to Alabama.

Just wait until things get a little sideways down there if Lane drops a few games. He will troll the wrong person and they may not ever find his body.
