I've always found Auburn a little hard to project. They seem blue blood-ish but in the modern era, they really only had success with Malzahn and his wacky offense. When the boosters made him change, it went down hill.

Auburn ain’t what they used to be. That would have been a lateral move for lane.

Seeing as how this year's portal class might possibly be the final one with the paramaters as they are.... If you separate the Ole Miss part of this.......I cannot fathom why he made this move. It's absolute absurdity to me.

- He had a national championship caliber team;
- All the family things you mentioned, including his kids having roots there;
- He had a blank check at Ole Miss, for NIL and his own pay;
- He had built a program, yeah OM isn't LSU, but I mean they proved they were right there;
- He doesn't fit LSU culture, like at all.....while he was perfect for Ole Miss.

I really just don't get it. There were plenty of better times to leave - he picked the absolute worst one. There has to be more to the story.......like some sort of disdain for Ole Miss/Oxford.

Totally agree with everything you listed except it doesn't apply to a narcissist. I'll give you 3 reasons:

1. He's a narcissist with an insatiable ego
2. Just like you said OM is not LSU

He did not have a national championship caliber team. He was always going to leave when he could get a job at a place he could win a national title.

I have to agree with you. If he had a championship team he would have stayed. Kiffin wants a championship and he wasn’t gonna get it in Oxford. He knew that better than anyone else. Same reason Mullen left us. The 2018 team could have been the best he ever had here but it wasn’t gonna get him a championship.

What I recall from last year was his team was very shaky earlier on in the year with Austin Simmons. They barely sneaked by Kentucky and Arkansas and they don't beat Arkansas if not for Trinidad. Their D was also giving up some big numbers. Trinidad got hot and then by the end of the year, all of their units stepped up because there was something big to play for. It reminds me of Auburn winning the National Title with Cam Newton. Most of their season was bad D and they were winning in shoot-outs, but by the end of the year, when they had something big to play for, their D was completely different.

I just don’t think he believed his ceiling at OM was high enough. Which is a little puzzling considering that Indiana just won the whole thing and OM averaged just under 10 wins a year his last 5 seasons there.

But also I think the ceiling at LSU is definitely higher. I guess the key difference is you might can win one national title at Ole Miss, but building a dynasty would probably be easier at LSU.

Yeah, and maybe I’m being naive, but it’s hard to imagine a world where Ole Miss and its 100k worldwide alumni can continue to spend like Ohio St, Texas, Oregon, etc. For now, they’ve figured it out, but how long can it last is the question?
