Does Banks winning the Thorpe help us land a big name DB this year?

Can't hurt, but how much does it help? Knowing it can be done at MSU, and that they can fill the shoes of a Thorpe winner has to be a big selling point.

We're already in the game with 2 different 5* highschool corners and a couple of 4* JUCOs...plus Cox who we already have(he is an absolute stud but I prefer the ability to leave him at FS)...

Mackensie Alexander(5* from FLA) is coming on his official visit this weekend and is already pretty high on MSU. Got to think this helps us quite alot with him. Also, high 4* JUCO Carroll Washington will be on his OV this weekend... He's widely thought to be the best cover corner in JUCO...

Bottom line - we recruited very well at DB last year, and this year, we are probably going to absolutely kill it. I don't know how much difference the Thorpe makes, but the fact that we've developed unknowns into some of the best dbs in the country definitely gets noticed in a HUGE way!

Someone texted me that Jalen Ramsey and Rihyad Jones both tweeted about...

Whether it helps or not... who knows. But it definitely got noticed.

Good info Engie...I hope our coaches talk to them about being the next Banks/Slay combo for us on their visit. Who of the 3 do you feel best about?

And in response to Mizzou....did it say what they tweeted? Glad to know they were paying attention to it. Thanks.

Yes. That's the best, easiest sell in recruiting.....

Awards and the NFL draft. Denico Autry is at MSU almost completely because of Pernell McPhee. Hauled in that huge DT class last year partly because we knew Fletcher Cox was going pro as a Jr. That's what these kids want to see. Well, besides money.

Our best selling point it to tell them that Banks won the Thorpe despite our defensive coordinator's incompetence.

THIS.

Or "I put Banks in a scheme that completely mitigated his on-field talents and he still won the Thorpe!"
