The slide is slower then the run. That make sense. Sliding on the grown or running onthe grown. The will be faster. What I was arguing was that the dive is faster at the start but obviously you start to lose momentum once you dive and you don't when you run but there is a part of the dive that you move faster then the runner. If you can time the dive and distant you can win the sprint to the bag. If that was not the case then Running backs in football would never dive to the end zone other then show boating.</p>

..in the video, the diver isinitially ahead of the runner. so if he just dove later, wouldn't he reach the bag before the runner? why the hell is he diving 15 feet?

i'm still not getting why he slowed down so much while in the air. he shouldn't, unless he's just a crap diver, meaning he's just not putting much leg into those dives, and more just falling down.

In football, you can score a TD merely by breaking the plane of the end zone. You don't have to touch the ground. In baseball, you actually have to touch the base on the ground -- you can't just break the plane of the base.<div>
</div><div>This is also one of the most bizarre threads I've ever seen on this board. Boomboom and Big D arguing against facts the whole world knows are true for no real reason.</div>

LOL.

They were talking about this on MLB Network about a week ago- they all said you should run through the base and the only time to slide is to avoid a tag.

It's baseball experts. It literally takes DECADES for baseball conventional wisdom to come around to something new that's already been proven. Sometimes it feels like it's a sport full of Crooms.

besides, no one is contesting that the runner shouldn't slide, because of the injury risk.
