Does Memphis play in the SWAC now?

I don't understand why our fans are taking them so lightly. Honestly, I can remember so many close games with them over the years. Even if the score ends fairly lopsided in our favor...this game will be close into the 3rd quarter. This is even more true if our starting QB is not 100%. <div>
</div><div>Folks, we are MSU. We were 5-7 last year. We can lose this game. Should we? no. Do I think it could be a blow out in the end? yes. However, I guess I've just been an MSU fan long enough to know we could lose.

Remember we are 22 point favorites. Over a Division I team. That hasn't happened in 10 years. Normally when we play Memphis, this board has a few Tiger High fans prowling - nothing this year. Memphis knows that they are beaten.

2-10 and losing that many starters off of one of the worst defenses in college football last year.
Their QB's father bought his starting position. Their starting RB left the team last week.

If this game is close in the third quarter, we're going 4-8. I honestly think we are up three TDs at the half.

is hurt, I don't see how anyone could feel really good about it. I think our defense should still be able to win us the game without him, but if we have to play TR the whole game, I'd say the chance of us losing goes up quite a few percentage points. On the flip side, if Mullen says Relf is good enough to play, then surely he'll be able to throw the ball and it's not too bad. I just don't see why he'd even play him if all he can do is hand it off or keep it.

You are talking about a 2-10 CUSA Team that lost ALL their "decent" players. I don't think they have a receiver that has caught a ball in college, I know they don't have one with a start. My understanding is that they don't have a QB at all so the coach did the smart thing, let the kid who's dad has billions of dollars play! Normally I would be at least cautious about Memphis but no one in Memphis is even talking about football. Hell, they didn't even repaint the paw prints to the stadium. That's normally a yearly ritual.

I'm never this cocky. but in all seriousness, Maine had a better team the year we lost to them than Memphis does this year.

I think Maine finished 5-6 in I-AA that year. But you're right thatthismay be the worst Memphisteam in memory, and they've had alot of pretty bad teams over the years.

the general reaction when he was hired was, "Who's he and why did Memphis hire him?" And he hasn't done anything to inspire much confidence from the few Tiger faithful since then. Supposedly, he's already made several missteps during the spring and the offseason.

Their head coach was a position coach, and in college. At least Croom even spent a short time as an OC in the NFL. Let that sink in. They couldn't hire anybody. Their best player is probably Jamon Hughes, a Croom recruit no less. They are starting a QB that has no experience and is starting because his Dad is a cigar boy there. Ole Miss played poorly against them last year on the road and still hung 45 on them. They're pitiful. Their freaking top running back just jumped ship on them.

And what Jackie Sherrill did to them back in the day in the late 90's has no bearing on today whatsoever. That's like saying that Vick Ballard is going to put up 200 yards of total offense against Bama this year because JJ Johnson did that to them in 1998. I would be very willing to bet that Memphis had better teams then.

And then they are on the road, and apparently will have no one there.

Even if we start Tyler Russell and he plays the whole game, we should still be able to win fairly easily. I'll be disappointed if we don't score 40, and on a bad day we should still get into the 30's. IF they do beat us, it would be every bit as bad as Tulane beating MSU.

but superior talent will win out. And on top of that, we are going to be way more physical than they are on both sides of the ball. If we win the LOS, it won't matter if they have Sean Payton over there. If they do, we better watch for an onsides kick after the half. And we have more speed. They're screwed.
