Does our AD need to sit down with Lebby

And assure him that he is getting next year no matter what and tell him that he can play KT without having to worry about losing his job? I’m not saying Lebby should not be fired, but if Selmon isn’t going to fire him no matter what is that a conversation that the 2 need to have to try and build for next year at this point? Shapen played well yesterday but the season is basically over. Lebby doesn’t need to go into next year with a true sophomore quarterback with zero starts under his belt and Shapen is wasted reps at this point.

No, Selmon doesn't need to tell Lebby how to do his job. Lebby can win or lose on his own without AD interference.
Not necessarily tell him who to play, but that he doesn’t have to try to win one more with a lame duck quarterback if he doesn’t want to because it’s not going to cost him his job if he doesn’t win another game.

Devil's advocate: Lebby plays KT, he's a superstar and manages to win not two but three of our last four games. Auburn outbids us in the off-season and we have no plan for next year.
KT isn’t going anywhere. Particularly if he is the starter and knows it. We won’t be outbid on him in that scenario. He’s a local guy whose uncle played here and he loves the school. We would match whatever offer anyone else had and he would stay. That’s not the case for a lot of kids but it is with him.

Isn't the consensus that Lebby is going for a portal QB starter this offseason? KT doesn't seem to know when to hand off in the RPO.

I’m sure he will go get one to compete for the starting job. But KT needs reps to give him a real shot at even having the opportunity to be trustworthy next year. He may fail and not be any good but he needs the chance in a year that is already wasted. At a minimum he needs to start getting multiple series a game at running the full offense.

Last night would have been a good time. Needed to run out the clock and he needed experience

I'd love to see KT run the Relf Coast Offense. But he needs to figure out how to read the ends and know when to actually hand off.

I think his early season success against defensive lines fooled him into thinking he could just run over everyone in this league and he gets very few opportunities to make plays so when he gets a chance he wants to be the hero. It’s why I want to see him run the normal offense a few times.

Shapen didn't play poorly last night, I don't see the point
Shapen played his best game of the year last night. This really isn’t a knock on him. It’s about what is best for the program in the future. I understand not wanting to bench Shapen entirely but if the plan is for KT to be the guy next year he needs reps in a year that we aren’t really playing for anything. If Lebby is assured he gets another year maybe that allows him to get him some more PT to help the development.

Overthrown balls, we're up 17 and he's not running the clock out, etc. He was getting nailed on some plays so tough for sticking in there. NO one is calling him soft this year

you don't just quit trying to win games to get someone experience for the next year. recruits and transfers want to see success. KT won't be given the reins next year, i'm hoping he earns them and has to beat out someone that is good enough to be a starter.

You can get him playing time without giving up on the year. It’s not like he’s replacing a heisman candidate for a couple of series per game. Just let him run the offense periodically to get him ready. If he can’t handle a couple of semi scripted drives where he doesn’t just run straight forward like a bulldozer then he definitely won’t be ready next year. And maybe that’s where he’s at, but I find that hard to believe. This isn’t the most difficult offense in the world to run, particularly if you’re just giving him small chunks of it.

Nope. He needs to tell Lebby to find a way to win 2 more games & get bowl eligibility. You play the best you got & Taylor ain’t it. If he did play a full game a lot of you guys would shut the 17 up. It would be bad.

I don’t disagree that this is what needs to happen. I’m saying if the decision has already been made to keep him no matter what is this a conversation that needs to happen. If we are going to go down this road of keeping a coach that goes 0-16 then at least let him know he’s being kept so he can not coach in a way that hinders development.

Agree that the decision has been made. Really there never was a decision. Selmon was never going to fire Lebby. But the point remains. You’re not going to accomplish anything by throwing Taylor in to the fire now. We still have a slim chance to get broke eligible. And that has to be the only focus for this team & coaches.

I'll say this again, I don't think it matters who Lebby puts in as QB because he's gonna mismanage it either way. Shapen obviously hasn't learned anything under Lebby so why would KT?

I think he’s got enough talent to put some real packages in for him and it be effective without just throwing him to the wolves. I think it should have already happened before all of this and it should definitely happen now. He needs to come in and complete some passes to make the bulldozer Tebow sh*t work against SEC teams. Everyone knows what he’s going to do right now when he comes in the game. We can develop him and it be what’s best for the current team without making him do things that he’s not ready for. He’s being mismanaged right now. Get him out of the pocket and give him the run/pass option with safe throws. Anything but what we are doing right now with him. It’s turned into a wasted down 75 % of the time.

The results so far say you’re wrong. He’s nowhere near as ready as Tebow was. We tried a pass yesterday & we’re lucky it wasn’t intercepted.

I mean it was a touchdown. The read was correct and he should have put a little bit more air under it but it definitely shouldn’t have been intercepted. That would have been a hell of an interception. He was fully extended and barely got a finger on it

It wasn’t even a read. It was a designed call from the beginning. And the pass was bad, to put it kindly. We got a fortunate bounce & Traore made a hell of a play. Taylor was lucky.

I have no clue if KT can truly help the team this season or not. But I do believe that Lebby gets another year, warranted or not. That being the case, he will be coaching for his career. 10 years ago, it was paramount to get a young quarterback ready for the next season in a situation like this. Coaches on the hot seat are not going to spend time (or take the risk) developing potential when they can take other people's money and buy a "proven" QB. It's what I hate most about the transfer portal football...coaches are just talent acquisitioners.

I meant the read on whether to throw it or run/throw it out of the back of the end zone. The throw was there and it wasn’t a spectacular throw but it wasn’t some god awful pass that should have been intercepted. The defender made a hell of an effort to tip the pass.

KT will not be our starting QB next year. A portal guy will be. I don’t think Noxubee County plays the kind of competition that makes their QBs sure fire Big Time players.

And before anyone points out his high rating coming out of High School, Kromenhoek was more highly rated and he can’t even get on the field at a school that has lost 16 straight conference games.

No. If you have to tell him how to do his job, he doesn’t deserve the big chair

Not asking him to tell him how to do his job. Just asking him to tell him he has a job no matter what so he can coach accordingly. If someone thinks they may get fired they are going to coach differently than if they know they are getting another year. He wouldn’t even need to bring up KT really. Just let him know his job is safe, if it actually is safe.
