if you have noticed like i have in the past 6--7 years during our suckitude, nobody, no team has complained about them. but diehard i would lay $100 on the table right now that if we start laying 7 to 8 wins a year consistently you will see the NCAA step in and other teams complaining.

That organization has abolished any and all noise rules. The SEC, however unamiously agreed to retain the rule a year or two ago. I'm fairly certain we are the only conference to do so.

As mentioned elsewhere, there has been no attempt to enforce the rule since the NCAA's action. It will certainly be interesting to watch.

Just curious, because I really don't know the history of noise makers and I typically don't follow schools outside the SEC that much, but are there any other schools that use anything similar to cowbells? If not, that would explain why no other conference has addressed them.

everybody and their mother uses thunder sticks now - hell they even give them out at high school games. Wasn't there another SEC that used them some last year? maybe Kentucky?

They might be alright for a basketball game. Never should they be used at a college football game. I hate the cowbells with a passion. They're annoying as hell. But I'd tell the rest of the SEC to go 17 themselves if I were you. It's part of your tradition and history. The conference should just drop the rule and be done with it already.

Texas does have cowbells. From experience, however, they are much less fervent with the use of the cowbell.

I don't know any SEC team that makes a big deal about them (seems like something Vandy would try), but UCF fans *tried* to use them at the Liberty Bowl and thought they had a good counter to the cowbells. Couldn't hear them, though. The cowbells were too many and too loud.

Exactly. I think Hoddy Toddy is annoying, same goes for Rocky Top, Pig Sooey, and I'm sure more that I'm forgetting, but I don't think they should be outlawed.</p>

Cotton Bowl the last time we played there. That would make you aware of the cowbell thing.

Edited to say: It was a cowbellorama, a Major Applewhiteorama, and a RickyWilliamsorama.

early-morning asswhooptacular in a crapstravaganza of a stadium.
To quote the lady in the parking lot (yelled from the back of a truck) on our way out "Why ain't ya'll ringing them damn bells no more?"
