anything with less than 3 blades and my face is cooked

bc of the thickness of my stubble. i'm having a hard time believing these flimsy single blades can handle my girth. does anyone that can grow a beard on here actually use these things?

I'm 1/2 wop so I can grow a solid beard when I choose to. I wouldn't call myself a blue beard, but I'm a step below that. I've used the Mach 3 since the 90s and just switched to a DE razor about 3 months ago. I'll never go back.

You HAVE to buy good blades. If you get the ****** Wilkinson blades from Walmart, you'll need an immediate blood transfusion. Feather blades are the only blades I recommend. I know others on this board have recommended other blades, but I don't like them. I went through a sampler pack of about a dozen brands (including ones mentioned on here by others) and IMO the Feather blades were 10x better than the next best brands. But they aren't for everyone. They are known and being the sharpest and most "aggressive" blade out there.

Also, I only get 2 shaves out of a razor before I notice it dulling. Some get 3-4. I only go 2. They cost around $0.30 each so no big deal.

Ultimately, you have to get a razor and blade combination that agrees with your beard type and skin's sensitivity. There is no catch-all solution.
You can read this thread to see what I'm talking about. This guy hates Feather while others sing it's praises. http://shavenook.com/thread-my-war-against-feather-blades

It's all trial and error, but I guarantee you there is a much better solution that the Mach 3.

I don't use any shaving cream. Warm water and a triple blade razor and I'm done.

i'm in this boat as well but in the shower. once with, once against then done. i get nicked when i use any sort of shaving cream but am fine without it. anyone use the singles without shaving cream in this fashion?

I use the shave secret oil after a hot shower with a safety razor. Works great. I might get a badger brush and soap but just haven't needed it yet

Pretty sure you have to get one of their handles. If I not mistaken, DSC uses Dorco refills.

Any of yall use the safety razor to shave your head? Is it even possible. I shave my head once or twice a week and if its not possible with an SR I would prob pass on it.

Thanks

I just did a little comparison between ordering from Dollar Shave Club and Dorco Direct.
Dorco offers a couple more options than DSC does, basically a 2 blade, 3 blade, 4 blade, 6 blade and a 6+1 with a trimmer on the back. DSC offers the Twin, the 4 blade and the 6+1.
For comparison, I'll list those 3's prices from Dorco as well as DSC.
Buying in bulk, the twin blade works out to $.77/cartridge versus $.25/ea from DSC.
The 4-blade bulk price works out to $1.17/blade whereas DSC gets $1.50/blade.
The 6+1 or "Executive" as DSC calls it is $1.43/ea in bulk or $2.25/ea from DSC.

If you're a bare-bones kind of guy and think the twin blade is for you, DSC is far and away the best option. They're essentially giving them away.

For the 4-blade, I'd say it's basically a wash. You can save a little, but that $8 every 6 months is probably offset by shipping (Free with DSC) and when you factor in convenience I might give the nod to DSC.

Where you see the biggest savings (or where DSC is making its money) is with the Executive. It's about 2/3 the cost when you order refills from Dorco. Even still, I could see someone justifying the extra $3/month for the convenience of "they just show up every month". Again, part of that is offset by shipping cost (which I couldn't see without checking out).

Another tip, if you want six blades and don't need the extra "trimmer" blade, Dorco offers a 6-blade without it, and that'll save you $.10/ea over the 6+1. (The 3-blade is $1.01/ea.)

Either option saves you gobs over going to Walmart and picking up a 12-pack of Gillettes, that's for sure. I really can't speak to the quality.

ETA: The $1/month plan is actually $3/month because it does not include shipping, like the others. That makes it $.60/cartridge, still cheaper than buying from Dorco.

Also, I don't know why this post got put where it did. I clicked reply to thread.
