"Rutgers athletic director Julie Hermann is expected to meet with university President Robert Barchi before the end of the weekend, three people familiar with the situation told NJ Advance Media on Friday. The meeting, presumably called by Barchi, is the first evidence the university's administration is preparing to act.

"The futures of Flood and Hermann could hang on a report being compiled by the university's office of enterprise risk management, ethics and compliance. The report is expected to detail allegations of failed drug tests and other issues that could result in NCAA infractions and possible sanctions, multiple people familiar with the situation have told NJ Advance Media.

A draft of the report made its way to the university's senior administration earlier this week, a person with knowledge of the situation told NJ Advance Media."

"All three people spoke on the condition of anonymity. One of the three said Barchi appears to be leaning toward firing Hermann and Flood once the football season ends."

I would be fine with JH being fired as long as Flood is out as well.

This would seem to corroborate the latest buzz, at least insomuch as I've been hearing.

It would appear that Barchi is taking control of the situation and that Julie could well be out.

Whether Flood goes with her is a coin toss, at the moment.

Frankly, it doesn't make a lot of sense to me to fire both - as I pointed out in an email thread among friends, that means that you have to immediately hire an AD who then has to immediately hire a football coach. Or, you let the interim AD (remember, RU has a more or less "permanent interim Athletic Director") lead the coaching search. Or you put together a coaching search committee without an AD in place and then try and hire an AD after the fact. None of these are what you would call "best case scenarios".

The thing with Julie, like her or not, is that she's in charge of the athletic department, she's Kyle Flood's boss and the football team is a freakin' train wreck.

Remember - the reason Flood wasn't fired for "Emailgate" was because he was able to plead ignorance. He claimed to not know that contacting professors was against the rules and when the investigative attorneys walked through it they discovered he may well have been telling the truth - nobody ever made him take the required compliance training. That falls on Julie.

Now comes word, from the "thorough investigation" that drug testing irregularities actually land on the AD's desk, because it's the AD's office that handles testing results, not the individual head coaches.

So it would certainly seem, here, that the First Rule of Management applies - to wit, "everything... is your fault." In a climate where people are calling for heads to roll, Julie's seems like a good candidate. She's in charge, all the blame for the various f*ckery within the athletic department can be laid at her feet and it won't cost $1.4 million to replace her. If you're Barchi and you're just looking to get out of this whole mess with the least amount of effort, she seems like a pretty good candidate for the chopping block.

The downside to this is simply the possibility that if Julie gets canned, we could wind up stuck with Flood for another season. He may have just been clever enough to turn the tables on the contentious relationship between him and his boss. He's no doubt been threatening to litigate any potential termination for cause - and as I said months ago, would absolutely walk away from that table with a check, based on what we've learned about the compliance situation, alone. Hell, if he really wanted to he could probably make enough of a case that Julie has created a hostile work environment in the wake of her abortive attempt to fire him in 2013.

At the end of the day, the simplest solution for Bob Barchi may well be to fire Julie, hire a new AD and then let the new AD do as he will with Flood after the 2016 season.

Well, we could promote Flood to AD if Julie is fired, and that's like killing two birds with one stone. . . . . .

Seriously, the NCAA only brings the hammer down when a school lies to them or doesn't self report. But we will not go scotch free either.

I rather not hijack this thread and talk about UNC which I couldn't care less about. So I will just say, stay tuned and leave it at that.

If what you're saying about Julie is true, then she absolutely needs to go. And Jesus H Christ if we go through this entire investigation, Julie gets fired, and Flood ends up staying, we should just give up D1 football.
