On a separate note, I wish Mullen would let Thames' dumbass back on the team. We are going to need some more safeties next year.

Mullen is too much of a hardass for that...but it wouldn't hurt to have him on the team...we need all the help we can get right now and the kid was good I hear.

most of these recruiting coordinators on staff are just administrative guys that line up things relative to recruiting. They may have some interaction with prospects when they are on campus but the assistant coaches really do all the actual recruiting as far as I'm aware.

Hell, go down to MGCCC and tell Steve Campbell "We'll up your salary by $25,000" and put him on our staff solely to recruit. I can't think of a better hire.

why can't we at least pull a few guys from up that way? One would think that their (Mullen/Hevesy/Mirando/Sallach) approach might come across better with recruits in that area.

South Carolina has commitments from a DB out of New Jersey and a QB from PA, and are also in on another QB from CT. One of Clemson's top QB commitments is Jim Kelly's nephew out of New York. In the SEC recently, you've had the Kouandijo brothers from Baltimore, Knowshon Moreno out of NJ and Percy Harvin out of the Norfolk, VA area. Obviously those guys all signed with elite SEC programs, but there have to be some quality players up there that would love to have the chance to play in the SEC. It doesn't look like we really even target a lot of guys in that part
of the country, although we did get in late on Kevin McReynolds last
year, and it looks like we're targeting a RB from Maryland this year.

BTW, wasn't Geoff Collins supposed to have a pretty good reputation as a recruiter (his bio makes mention of it)? He's a Georgia native and has been recruiting coordinator at a couple of stops.

would in his own words focus our recruiting within a 5 hour radius of Starkville yet he doesn't seem to be filling his recruiting staff with guys that are familiar with and have connections to the area.

There is a natural connection there. A little like the Illinois people that end up at Ole Miss (not a lot but enough to take notice). Plus for every recruit in the northeast, you've got a lot more d1 schools going after them.

I think there are still some kids out of the Northeast, that don't end up at the top flight BCS schools, that we could still land and who would be happy to have the chance to play in the SEC.

Take a few recent Boston College/UConn players for example: Matt Ryan, B.J. Raji and Jordan Todman. Obviously, these guys would have been what most would consider "SEC caliber" players.

Here's their rankings and offers (per Scout)

Matt Ryan - Exton, PA *** (BC, GT, Iowa, Purdue)
B.J. Raji - Westwood, NJ ** (BC, Rutgers)
Jordan Todman - North Dartmouth, MA ** (UConn, Purdue, Northeastern)

Neither of these guys had what I would consider "top-flight" offers. These are the type of guys that I think we could target and possibly land. Sure we want to focus most of our attention on MS and the southeast, but it would be nice to supplement our class with a few of these guys every year as well, especially since several members of our coaching staff are from this part of the country.

in Starkville and by campus PD? The packet is full of them. When I was leaving the LSU game in a traffic cluster 17, both the campus PD and SPD were pulling people over. Shouldn't they be helping with traffic, instead of 17ing with people going 10mph?
