If Dontae is one of the former players honored at the snowbowl12 game, I hope he isn't booed. Yes he quit, but he regrets it.

He may regret it and no way I boo. However, last time I saw him he was wearing a Bama cap while talking to the MS Dandy Dozen.

Agree to have a slight problem with the Bama cap. Deuce wasn't wearing another teams cap while talking to Mississippi dandy dozen. Won't boo either, but I won't go out of my way to cheer.

Let's just all hope he isn't there. If he is, I suspect he will be booed. Agree with a couple of others in this thread. Wearing the Bama cap while talking to the Dandy Dozen gives the impression that he doesn't give a **** about Mississippi State. 17 him.

As I recall, Smoot didn't play in the Snow Bowl ... he'd been suspended, I think for academic reasons. I guess he didn't let the Vanderbilt guy catch the pass ....

If everybody boos with the same effort Dontae gave on the football field, they won't be heard anyway.

I just watched the snowbowl replay and we wouldn't have won the game without him. I'm certainly not pleased with his overall career at state, but that game he was a beast. I'll cheer for him

17 that. People can boo if they want to. They bought their ticket. And if anyone deserved to be booed, he does.

I may be alone on this, but I'm going to cheer my *** off. With the crap that guy did in his younger days, if he has been humbled to the point where he can walk back out on Scott field in front of 50K MSU fans, I'll raise my flask to him.

He last played 11 years ago. time to let it go. And he did have some great games for us.

He was on the madkin and moulds show (moulds was the only one you could really follow) and said he wished that he would have handled things differently. He is finishing his degree at Milsaps I think. If you can find the interview you should listen. He sounds like a humble man. He could have done a lot worse things than wear a Bama hat after he was let out of prison. Maybe MSU should reach out to him. He did a lot for our university. Yes he basically quit his senior year but Jackie deserves as much blame for that as Dontae does.

You are dead on...

there were plenty of negatives in Dontae's time at MSU but the Snow Bowl wasn't one of them. He was a load in that game. This is a celebration of the team that played that game so he deserves to be cheered. And I'm not going to hold it against him too much about the Bama hat given the sour way things ended with him at MSU. Yea, I know it was mostly all his own fault but that still doesn't make the memories sting any less when he thinks back to his senior day and such.

I hope those who were old enough to have booed him are now mature enough not too.
I think Dontae was the face to vent frustrations to the overall programs downward spiraling anyway. The snowbowl was the beginning of a decade of deplorable football at MSU.

I would not boo him or cheer for him. But I can totally understand why some people would. And I've got no problem with that. Dontae was one of the first players that brought in the attitude that wound up poisoning our football program and led to the worst decade in our history.

To anyone contemplaing booing DW I say....

It's been 10+ years. Let it go. Fans booing one's own players in my opinion is bush league. Booing a former player over something that happened more than a decade ago is borderline psychotic and would only serve to make yourself and the school you profess to support look terrible.

I think even failing to give him a polite ovation would come across as petty but then I sort of doubt that they will call out the player's names.
