Yea right. He just got the #1 player in America to commit. Jones got the best offensive lineman in the state of Tennessee to stay in state unlike our coach.

Hope they committed to Tennessee and not Botch then. Jones will likely not be around to see those dudes graduate.

1. Trey Smith commits to UT but his sister was apparently already on scholarship before..so that may have something to do with it.
2. But UT is going to lose alot of talent off of this year's squad...it doesn't appear that ship is heading in a good direction for sure.

Yep. Schedule was absolutely tailor-made for UT this past season. Look what happened.

You mean like Landon Young?
I'm glad that Young was a cat through and through. From Lexington as well which always helps.
Wills also on the same squad and a 5 star and leaving the state, Harris also a 5 star and 25 miles south of Lexington also left the state. Hopefully Wills younger teammate who we've already offered who is a projected top 100 player in the country comes to bbn but as a poster already said in HOB that Bryan Hudson already had a visit from Bama and he is highly interested in them.

in the 2018 class we have
Tahj Rice who is the number 11 DE in the nation
Justice Dingle a 5.7 LB
Jarius Brents 33rd ranked CB
Rondale More a rb who UK has already offered

Several Div 1 guys in the state in the '18 class.

247 already has the 2019 class ranked and these guys are from kentucky.

Stephen Herron ranked 15
Jacob Lacey ranked 37
Bryan Hudson ranked 93
Tanner Bowles got an offer the other day. Is an OL from Glasgow
Milton Wright already has offers from Oregon St and Louisville

Their will be some others pop up on this list as time goes on. Several 4 star players and maybe even a 5 star or 2 in the state in the 2019 class.

Next year is it for him unless they go to the SEC championship. His teams are wayyyyyy too talented just to finish 8-4 2 years in a row

Bluegrass, there is a lot of perception in the two programs. It's going to take UK coaches time to make someone like Willis, believe he can accomplish the same thing at UK as he can at Alabama. By that, I mean, believe UK can get him to the pros. If we stay the course, and keep winning, we can change the culture, and the perception of players we are recruiting, just as Coach Cal has in basketball. It's not going to happen in a couple of years, but I think we are on the right course. At least I, and a lot of UK fans are hoping the present coaching staff are on the right course.

Of the 247Sports 2017 top 15 players in the state of Tennessee, 3 are committed to UT. 3 are committed to Clemson (I'm using 247 because Rival's state rankings doesn't have the state of Tennessee linked at the moment).

The top 7 players in order are committed to:

1. Tennessee
2. Clemson
3. LSU
4. Tennessee
5. Clemson
6. Clemson
7. Tennessee

It might be just me, but it doesn't look like Butch is doing a great job of locking down the state.

Isn't one of those headed to Clemson Tee Martin's boy?

UT was the run away favorite to win the East this year, They have recruited well the last 3-4 year under Jones. A large part of that can be attributed to legacy kids but they still had to sign them UT and Butch were lucky not to be a 6-6 team this year and they were expecting 11-1 at worse, They willl lose quite a few sacks and a ton of tackles and offensive production to graduation and early enrollees this year. I don't see how they don't take a big step back in 17. A qb with very little experience and a sr who was known more for his running than throwing, top 2 backs gone,

Maybe, but the football talent in Tennessee is way better than Kentucky. #15 in Tennessee is probably better than #5 in Kentucky

Wills never wanted to go to UK. UK would probably had to go undefeated to have a chance at getting him. He just doesn't bleed blue like Landon Young and Drake Jackson. Is that too hard to understand?

Tn doesnt have the hold on players in the central and western part of the state as one would think. Memphis to knoxville is roughly 400 miles. Its much closer to go to school at Ole Miss, Miss St, Ark, Auburn, Bama etc. Heck even the amtrack goes through here on the way to new orleans.
So for Butch to get a kid from Jackson was a pretty good get for him.

They should be thanking the football gods that they finished 8-4 this year. Should've lost to Appalachian State and Georgia. The writing was on the wall for them in week 1 against App State. I've never seen a team get the kind of lucky breaks the Vols got that night.

No doubt. But Tennessee is not a hotbed of football talent either. They have about a 1/3 of the # of players in the NFL as Georgia. About 1/2 as many as Alabama and Louisiana. And they trail their nearby neighbors in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

Bottom line: There's not enough football talent in Tennessee for UT to share with Clemson, LSU, Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi State. Butch Jones has to lock down East Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and compete in Memphis. And despite the recruiting success of the past few years, that's not happening this year.

Tennessee works to make up for their shortage of in-state talent by extending their presence into Western North Carolina over to Charlottte. Stoops is doing the same thing by extending Kentucky's presence into Southern Ohio and on up to Youngstown.

I hope they do just well enough to keep him around. Kind of like the IU basketball situation with Crean.

If they got rid of him now they could haul in Miles, Fleck, PJ Harsin, maybe even Charlie. If they got rid of him later, they could swing for Chip Kelly, maybe Brian Kelly. None of those options are great for us. Long shot would be Tee Martin.

And in truth, the Georgia win was one of the most absolute flukes ever seen. And Florida should also have been a lost. Won't even mention Appalachian State.
