Now Saban's interested in "the good of college football". LMAO.

This is the same guy that practically invented oversigning.

Is / was that practice "good for the game" Nick? Was it good for the student-athlete?

It was undoubtedly good for you professionally and helped to resurrect your program.

Why the sudden, newfound interest in pursuing things that are good for the sport?

Ego's and greed. It's a classic example of the when someone has past/current success and wants to do everything in their power to keep it the same and not allow any change that might impact their future success. He'll lose out eventually but along the way he'll be making a big stink about it whenever he can...

Not a shock in our current system to see people go to great lengths to maintain any competitive advantage they may have. It happens everywhere in society...hell, it's pretty much the definition of what a lobbyist actually does.

What a dumb article. Saban is ignorant on his view of camps. Sipple is dumb for attacking Michigan and Harbaugh for being proactive. It's a dog eat dog world.

Sipple will always buy the coaches crap who say "we work too much". What a joke. Nobody is forcing these victims to take big-time coaching jobs with amazing pay. Oh, the horror.

I don't even get why they think they need to "work so much" do they really need to sleep in their offices and work 80 hours a week (like they seem to love claiming)

Maybe they actually spend all that time at the office because they don't want to go home.

They spend a lot of time "working" with coeds in their offices.

I must have missed where Saban called out the crap at Ole Miss. After all, he is just concerned about the "integrity" of the game.
saban would then have to call himself out. 1 month ago alabama had to fire the dline coach because of recruiting violations. this assistant coach coach was also with saban at lsu so its not like he didnt know what he was doing.

Saban is concerned about the good of college football like he is the personal well being of college football players. That's why he was concerned about player safety with the up tempo offenses. That's why he was concerned about slamming his 300 lb lineman into the smaller and less athletic defenses at Middle Tennessee, Florida Atlantic, and Western Kentucky. Oh wait, he wasn't concerned about the well being of those teams. And maybe he was concerned about the up tempo teams because his oversized players aren't good at it and his team struggles against it. Wow, maybe his concern about satellite camps is self-serving as well.

Is Saban concerned about the student-athletes and "integrity" of the game when the $EC oversigns every class, and runs off players?

PERFECT!! They can start earning their pay! Because I guarantee you this is all about having to defend their territory a little harder now.....

It obviously hurts the players. Especially the poor ones. Who are dis-proportionally minorities. Which is why the NCAA will never outright ban it.

First it was legal, then not so much then it was legal again (all of which with Harbaugh had nothing to do) and Sipple lectures about "the integrity of the game"...nice.

The rest of his article laments the cost to the University of Michigan and Harbaugh's time away with current players.

Sipple then weeps for all the universities that will have to open satellite camps around the nation...boo-hoo.

Do they actually pay guys for this kind of drivel?

Go Blue!

He's a Peelini nut-hugger. Always looking for reasons for coaches to be some kind of martyrs.

Saban is trying to keep hold of his competitive advantage, pure and simple. He's got an advantage in proximity to talent-rich states. Doesn't want those bag men...I mean coaches...from other schools showing up and raising his degree of difficulty in inking a top-5 class every year.

The part I find amusing about the article is that the tone he uses makes it seem like he's been really academic in his analysis. Unfortunately, he's just not very smart.

Saban is interested in one thing only...maintaining his (the SEC's) current recruiting advantage in the southeastern US. That is all.

Here's a plot twist...Bama has just agreed to attend two of Michigan's satellite camps...one in Baltimore and one in Virginia...wonder if Saban himself shows up or if he just sends a few members of his staff.

That might be even better than Jim and Pete's famous "What's your deal" exchange. The only way Nick can get Jim to change his tune is to start ripping all the best kids out of MI and OH with frequent camps in Detroit, Cinci, Cleveland, etc.

Bama does recruit Michigan (and OH)...don't forget that Saban used to coach at MSU and still has his connections...his last big pull was Heisman winner Mark Ingram out of Flint...and Bobby Williams (former MSU HC and current Bama assistant) will be at the SMSB camp in Detroit...was announced a month ago but I'm sure Saban just forgot about that when he went on his little rant.

And fwiw...the 4* instate DE that verballed to Michigan yesterday was being heavily recruited by Bama...was one of his finalists.

Does Bama camp there, or just have a strong presence?

SMSB is a satellite camp. It's actually kind of the model for them. It was started in Detroit 12 years ago (now it has spread to other cities) and is massive attracting kids from all over the region. It is not really dominated by one school (though Michigan, MSU and tOSU have kind of been the headliners in the past) and NU's coaches will be in attendance this year. So it's not like it is a Bama specific camp but they'll be there.

But this needs to be regulated because it's not good for college football. Also let's make Paul Finebaum College Football Commissioner/King. It's the only way to make college football great again!

The worst part is that SMSB (Sound Mind Sound Body) requires the campers to attend a day of classes (life lessons and such) and take a pledge to graduate. What? Do these people think the kids need to play school also? So Finebaum has a point...it's bad for football if these kids spend too much time in the classroom when they could be in the film and weight room instead. SEC, SEC, SEC

This is what Saban should have been doing from the start. I know it's too much work for Freeze though.
You have not entered the twilight zone...this is real life...Freeze and Harbaugh are doing a camp together...Harbaugh just did a camp with Kirby Smart yesterday though Kirby left half way through (by helicopter making a scene) claiming he had an event back on campus...good times

And the fun continues...Bama has decided to join Michigan at the Paramus Catholic (nj) camp. For those not familiar with the school...it is the home of last years #1 overall player Rashan Gary and Jabrill Peppers (who was the #3 overall player in his class)...both who Michigan beat out Bama for...the school has the #1 player in NJ for this year also...a kid Saban is going after hard but wots is Michigan leads...should be fun

And fwiw...Iowa has signed onto the camp as well
