Man, that just was NOT a fun game in any way.

Shooting was cold for everyone.

Bolden did nothing for the short time he was in there.

Guards struggled with D.

Harry barely touched the ball, and played practically no minutes.

Awkward game. On to the next one.

Jackson needs to start getting major minutes at pg now!! I don't understand. we had success early .it was shakey but the more he's in the more he's going to improve and it's going to be huge down the stretch! He needs to be in now and stop with this trying to squeeze Matt jones in bs! It hasn't worked move on..well people are exploiting it..He can sub in for Allen from time to time if even necessary ..The starting lineup should be Tatum Jefferson Jackson kennard Allen and chemistry needs to start now Being established with this group for us to be successful .with Giles subbing for Tatum bolden for Jefferson time to time or vise versa ..with jeter for a spark maybe 2 min a game something

The eye test tells me the freshmen should get more PT. The +- stats say Jones is our leader and needs to play. Go figure. I do know it's December and we have a pretty decent coach and staff to sort this thing out. It may be February until that happens.

Solid keyword ..on ball below average imo..our offense is suffocating with him in with guys literally leaving him wide open ..I had a feeling this would happen..why Jacksons not in more is mind blowing .bolden either he's gotta learn sometime?

I'm sorry?? Shey He isn't expected to hit wide open shots ??? Come on you play at Duke you hit those shots! Especially if your starting ..wow it's not even that his ball handling is suspect along with his passing ..he hustles I give it to him.i did too..lol
Isn't Grayson and Luke as well? Luke had three turnovers the first half, should he sit!
Frank Jackson will be good but he gets in and gets into foul trouble right away.
Not one player except Luke could hit a basket last night but all this is Matts fault right? So he's the reason they killed us with points in the paint.

Some people on here love to put words in people's mouths on here and use "we" way to often referring to other posters...are you really comparing him to Grayson and Luke? Lol.and what in the cornbread hell does frank Jackson getting in Foul trouble have to do with him starting? Never mind. Smh

There are so many moving parts right now the only thing we can do as fans is exercise patience. It takes time for regular freshman to get acclimated to the college game let alone a slew of freshman that were all hurt and now battling mental hurdles to go with all the physical hurdles as well. There is no exact formula as to who should be playing with who, this is a challenge for K as well. We have never had so much talent on one roster and certainly no one is going to feel bad for us but there's an adjustment period for everyone. The one thing we know is that K will not jepeorodize games just so players get minutes. Minutes will be earned and trust will be built no matter how many stars a recruit was given. In a world where too many people feel entitled to so much, I stand behind a leader who demands that each person earn what they want. Give it time fellas, we will get this figured out by March

Hokie I don't understand what you mean by most of your post. What do you mean their play was by design?

I don't mean they played badly on purpose, I'm saying that they didn't want to give their upcoming ACC opponents too much tape on the new product they will have on the floor. No quick hitters, few sets, it smelled like a "go out and play type of situation".

It smelt like that situation was forced by TSU..lol..We started off trying to press and use our athleticism as an advantage and run ,they beat that.Lol were all over the place .the whole team looked out of sync and just lost. I don't know what the heck happen..Well I take that back I know some.I don't think we're worried about showing acc teams what we got though! Hahaah we don't know what we got! Yet evidently ! Can't have it both ways .We havnt built any chemistry yet so that makes no sense .

I'm sorry haven't we won eleven games as Matt as a Starter? I'm sorry Frank Jackson came in more as a combo who needed to work on his passing and ball handling.
Umm, because if your on the floor for four minutes and pick up two fouls how in a snow balls heck are you gonna stay on the floor for thirty minutes ? Yes , because last night Grayson was missing wife open threes and wide open Lay-ups and Luke while he was hitting his shots was getting beat off the dribble and turning the ball over. So pick your poison. Matt is in for leadership and defense and last I checked Grayson scores in the Kansas game better we are undefeated.
If you have five scorers on the floor, I get it you score more points open more lanes for Dukes offense how ever that still don't help with the fact Tenn St was in this game because of their ability to drive the lane and get points in the paint. Last I checked the five players scoring also have to defend on the other end of the court too. Ugly game all around but it is not just one players fault.

Lol^ So many ways I could go with that.
Well go, Last I checked Matt has a championship win under his belt with Grayson and Amile. Tell you what I'll support your theory on Jackson when he gets more then ten minutes. Which according to most posters time is earned in practice so he's had 12 games and lets just say double the practices to prove that.
Also last I checked Duke has won eleven games with Matt as a starter so he's doing something right other wise your theory would have been proven as to why Jackson should start.
That's like me Saying one of Dukes 6'10" or bigger players should be starting along side of Amile but none of them have shown the skill set or confidence to do so.

Still waiting on your logic to support Jackson should start over Matt.

You are wasting your words. The anti Matt Jones crowd will not go away and their opinion will not change. They will continue to wait in the weeds for any mistake and jump on it immediately. They want the 5 highest ceilings on the court at all times and give no value to leadership or defense qualities. Everyone has their own opinion, that is theirs. No point having this same debate all year long.

I said ever since last season that Matt Jones needs to be on the floor with this team and that he will be on the floor with this team. He helped create at least 3 turnovers last night by getting his hand on the ball playing help. He has value to this team.

With that said, doesn't it feel like he has regressed (esp offensively) this year? Or more to the point, doesn't he seem the same as he did last year when he came back from injury? He has no lift, he can't create on his own (he used to be able to get into the lane), and he isn't even hitting wide open 3s (32% from distance).

I understand that but I was just wanting his opinion on why Jackson should start over Jones.
I'm not arguing with the kid and if he came with sound logic I might support his theory.
I get Jackson has scored 12 points a game to Matts 7 and Jacksons shooting percentage is higher then matts however Matts assist and steals are higher then Jacksons. I was just wanting to know the logic on why a freshman should start over Jones

I'm not understanding why there is so much negativity toward Duke after just one game. Reading comments like I would want Malik Monk or Lonzo Ball infuriate me. Lonzo Ball is one of my favorite non Duke players but if he is not playing for Duke I wouldn't trade any of our players for him. We have a great team! It's just going to take time.

It all comes down to trust from practice. Coach K trust Matt Jones and he's going to get lots of minutes all season long. Yes Frank is a better scorer and more athletic, but he's going to have his freshman growing pains. Frank is going to be a stud, but it's going to take time. K knows Matt is going to play within himself and he's defense is better than Frank's. Just watch the these two guys play defense away from the ball and you'll see why Matt plays more. Again, there's one ball and five players. We don't need five scorers on the floor at all times. Be patient this team will mesh and when it does, there's not a team in the country that will stop them.

Jackson will play more come March. Can't have MJ bringing ball up against good defenders in tight spot.

I jumped the gun last night and was a little irritated as well. We're going to be fine once we get everyone meshed together. I'm super excited for March!

I like Matt, however I can't put blinds over my eyes at this point. He could go 0-15 from the floor and have 2 steals and some here would talk like those were the greatest two steals of all-time conveniently ignoring that 0-15. There are better players who need to syphon off some of his minutes at some point.

The team stunk last night, no other way to put it. With that said, unlike other fanbases whose entire assessment of a teams season rises or falls based on the most recent performance, those of us who have seen more than a couple seasons of basketball knows that December isn't March.

It is kind of hard at this point to continue to justify MJ getting 31 minutes and Jackson getting 13, but I think it might have to do with Jackson's health. I heard or read somewhere that Capel said Jackson had been able to practice just once over the course of exam week, so maybe that explains that discrepancy a little bit. Frank is still not healthy. With the work he did while Duke was waiting on the three freshman and Allen was hobbled, he deserves a firm spot in the rotation. And I am with the other posters who feel that spot should be first team. What exactly is his injury?

Some type of foot sprain like Tatum dealt with.

Ur not arguing with me because I'm choosing not to respond lol.Theres no argument here or "theory" that needs to be explained why Frank should be starting. If I have or anybody else has to go into detail for you ..I feel sorry for you. If he's injured it's one thing..He's better then Matt in every which way you look at it. Your only argument would be Matts 2 steals a game. THE ONLY..Ill gladly sacrifice 2 steals a game for Frank ..Matt should still play but not 30+ min a game More in the 15 min range. I think he will before long. You can't keep Matt at the point.maybe he takes a few min for Grayson ?? Idk, but Jackson needs this experience and now .it's going to be huge come tourney time.
