I don't know that I remember a recruit that has had such dislike on one side and such praise on the other.

We havesomeone in a thread below calling other posters out and challenging them to basically confront the guy and he hasn't even practiced, much less played yet.

Reality is, he's now a dawg and one of us. That makes him family in my book. I hope he shows everybody just how wrong they were about him.

If we were not just coming off of the Tyson Lee/Croom debacle, everyone would be in love with Favre. I'm not saying that he will come in and lead us to championships, but he is 1,000 times the QB that Lee was.

to wait and see what somebody does before predicting what I think they will do.

In no way am I saying he can be anywhere near even the <span style="font-style: italic;">college</span> QB Brett was. However, think about this.

If Brett was just now coming out of HS under the same circumstances that he did back in 87, people on here would be dogging the coach for signing him.

Its is a real shame this young man wasn't blessed with his uncle
Brett's physical measurables because this is the only thing keeping
this kid from being recruited by BCS level schools. Favre is like a
clone of Kansas QB Todd Reesing.

If he plays like Todd Reesing we hit a home run and all the nay sayers cans kiss his ***.

including the anuses. But in the days of 6'5" 365 pound DLs that can run, and 6'4" 260 pound LBs that run 4.6s, and blistering fast DBs coming off the corners from multiple looks, I just think this guy would have been better served as a CUSA/Sunbelt back-up. That's all I'm saying. In this league, I feel better about a 6'3" or 6'4" 220+ pound "athlete" being back there, even one that has lead feet, or one that has lead in his head.

the deck is stacked against the guy because of his size. You can look around the SEC, and sub-6' QBs are a rare breed. Given how the staff approached his recruiting, I think it's obvious they have some sort of doubt, whether it's about his size or something else.<div>
</div><div>However, I still hold that Lee's bad decisions hurt us much more than his height last year, and if it came down to it, I'd definitely "give him a chance". But in the fall, Favre is maybe our third string QB. Without question, he'll redshirt, and after that, probably be behind both Relf and Russell one more year. The whining is at best premature ... recruiting him was a no-brainer once Newton and Brunetti fell through.</div>

it's been done before but the odds are against him. we'll just have to wait to see what he can do. However, if you are going to take a chance on a kid, I think he is one of those you take a chance on.

but I'm still frustrated as hell that in 2010 as an SEC school we're stuck taking f'n fliers on 5'9" buck 80 QB projects. It's ********. We've got the guy that coached f'n tebow. Come on, man!

which first? Egg or Chicken? We gotta win to get the Newton's of the world. Then again, hard to win without the Newton's of the world.

I firmly believe we were 1 yard combined in the LSU and Houston games away from something special. We gotta make that yard to make the next step.

coming off of the Tyson Lee/Croom debacle

That is exactly what it is. If we had not endured Henig and Lee for the last 5 or 6 years. Nobody has anything to say about Favre's size.

You act like they grow on trees.

Favre could be just as good or better than Brunetti in college. aGAIN, I am not placing my hopes in Favre, but I think it was a good move signing him.

a bad thing?? Damn some of you people are worse than women. They actually whine about problems every once in a while. Some of you guys whine about everything.

If he turns out to be a Todd Reesing or Chase Daniel, **** I will take that all day long.

I saw him throw several balls 40+ yards and hit his receiver right in stride in the state title game. His size is a question mark as is his throwing motion, but his arm strength is fine.

I think one reason some fans are upset is because they feel you should learn from previous mistakes. Henig, Lee, and now you sign an even smaller QB.<div>
</div><div>I remember the "trust the staff" post about Henig. I remember the post about his cannon arm throwing a ball 70 yards at some camp. Many of the same justifications being said for Favre were said about Henig and Lee.</div><div>
</div><div>Sure Henig wasn't the Gatorade player of the year in MS, but if he had played at Favre's HS he may have put up similar numbers.</div><div>

Maybe last year was a fluke, but ours was the only QB under 6 foot in the entire league. And there are only three others under 6-3 (Garcia, Cox and Smith at Vandy). He may defy the odds (and as a fan, of course I hope he does), and I agree with the signing too. But what is so funny about this whole thing is that one side thinks his size *prohibits him from having any chance and the other thinks it doesn't hurt him at all.

I have no problem signing him.. Will he ever play a down besides mop-up duty, maybe not...
We have TR for the next four years, so I am not worried as long as we sign a real qb or two next year..

Dontae Walker had all the size and natural ability in the world coming out of high school, we see where that got him. Dexter who may be 170 had a prolific career at UM.

Granted qb and rb are different animals, but the point being we know Favre doesn't have a lack of work ethic. For him to have any kind of success he better have a good work ethic.

If he`s even half assed successful the marketing rights to MSU jerseys with "Favre" on the back will be damn valuable.</p>

That's not a good point at all. <div>
</div><div>McCluster was an athlete with unreal speed who projected at DB, WR, or RB. (Insert "Favre could play safety"...and I hope he is your SEC safety)</div><div>
</div><div>McCluster's height wasn't a hinderance at his postition. Maybe weight, but if they felt he needed weight, it could be added. Height, not so much.</div><div>

Mr. Football Mississippi > Guy who kept a DB from getting a pick-six

Besides, Henig wasn't Favre or Lee short. Not a giant, but he was a bonafide 6 feet tall. Henig's problem was that he sucked. Same with Lee.

if Dylan had the physical measurements to go along with his name and stats we probably couldn't haven't signed him anyway because he would likely be playing at Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, Florida State or some other school along those lines. I do at least like the fact that he WANTED to be at MSU if given the chance and would love to see him make all his naysayers eat their words.

i would gladly have a guy like that guy lining up behind center. who knows if Favre will be that guy but if we are going to take a chance on someone in a year when we didn't get the top recruits we were after, is there really a better scenario than a kid with the last name favre who happened to break records in MS and win some big awards? i don't think there is.

Similar numbers? Dylan Favre's numbers are among theTop5-10 of ALL of high school football history. ALL high schools ALL time.

How manyquarterbacks OVER 6 feet tall have done whatFavreaccomplished in high school?

http://www.courant.com/sports/os-recruiting-harry-prospector-1210-20091209,0,5272786.story

-- In 2009, Favre accounted for 81 touchdowns, the most in the history of high school football; any state, any level. He amassed 6,797 yards from scrimmage (or 453 per game), good enough for second all time. His 5,539 passing yards were the fourth-most (Note: he eclipsed 500 yards in three games, and threw for 498 in another); his 63 (passing) touchdowns placed 10th all time.

-- For his career, Favre finished with 170 total touchdowns (that's third-most by a player in the nation), 14,205 total yards (fifth), 13,509 passing yards (fifth) and 144 touchdowns (eighth). He's 10th in completions (751) and attempts (1,237).

but if someone is going to make a highlight tape, I would assume that they would put their best plays on there.

I was honestly more impressed with Boomer Scarbrough than Favre on the film.
