Dylan Roof and Vester Flanagan, a study in media contrast

Dylan Roof was obviously a racist and the media treated him accordingly. They even took on the confederate flag because it appeared in one of his photos. Vester Flanagan wanted to start a race war. He was a racist and wanted to kill white people. Yet you are hard pressed to find any media outlet reporting on Flanagan's racism with any near the fervor of Roof's reporting. Some have completely ignored Flanagan's racial motives. Wonder why?

The fact that your post would be widely accepted by Republicans is the reason the Democrats don't need to worry about losing segments of it's party anytime soon.

What? Calling an obvious racist a racist is wrong? Are you suggesting that African Americans will get pissed off if we call Flanagan a racist? Do you believe Flanagan was a racist?

The comparison of Flanagan and Roof isn't even close. The fact that you strain to equate them says something about you, especially to black people. If you don't believe me then why don't you go to a message board more oriented towards black folks and see what they say in response.

You truly are willfully blind. Flanagan wanted to start a race war. Roof wanted to start a race war. He shot the two reporters because they were white. How is there much difference? It's amazing that libs like you ignore facts just to please the Dem minority base. You're not helping minorities by treating them this way. In fact, you're very condescending to them.

Race played a part in who he selected to kill - yes or no?

You obviously haven't seen much news. If so, what news do you watch?

They have quoted two of his former employers. They both said he was just a very bitter person and very hard to get along with. Many of his former coworkers have said the same thing.

If you need to have a black guy to blame as being a racist, go for it, knock yourself out.

I read much more news than did you. ABC reported that he wanted to start a race war. Even Don Lemon of CNN agrees that he was a racist. Why is it so hard to libs to admit the truth?

About as much as he targeted his victims because they were straight. I think the main descriptor of the "targets" is FORMER COWORKERS.
Then why mention the church shootings...why write - “As for Dylann Roof? You (deleted)! You want a race war (deleted)? BRING IT THEN YOU WHITE …(deleted)!!!” ?

Libs only believe that Republicans can be racist. Besides, libs don't want to piss off African Americans. They may wake up and start voting for the party that can actually make their lives better.

is it even debatable that black people overwhelmingly vote for Democrats? So just what have Democrats done for those supporters? Are black people better off because of Democrat efforts??

If black people vote for Dems and Dems do much for black people then why do black people keep voting for Dems? People need to ask themselves that question. I think part of the answer is the alternative (the GOP) looks bad to black people, and not necessarily from the vantage point of things like fiscal policy or abortion.

Promises...but little if any delivery. Are you suggesting that people actually vote based on substance or do they get hooked on the politics of what is promised them in some political stump speech? For the most part, people are poor decision makers when it comes to voting IMO...they do it based on what feels good, or appearance, or the promise of hope and change.

Flanagan was a 41 year old guy that was difficult to get along with and whose life was going downhill. When your life is going out of control you tend to seek reasons to blame the world and if you're black one of those reasons might be that you think that people treat you badly because your black (or if you're gay a reason might be that you think people treat you badly because you're gay, which Flanagan thought too).

But those are justification people make in their mind. Flanagan killed primarily out of personal grievances. He didn't pick white people at random, rather he struck back at the last TV station that fired him and was apparently the final straw in his crumbling life.

A black equivalent to Dylan Roof would have been a 20 year old black guy that never worked with white people to begin with and that immersed himself in racist symbols and rhetoric from the start and then one day randomly picked a bunch of white strangers and killed them all.

Racism is racism. Wanting to start a race war is racism, if you ask me. Everything else you post is your normal course... blah, blah, blah.

Did I say that Flanagan wasn't being racist in his final notes about wanting to start a race war? All you want to do is ignore the big picture and focus on the fact that a black guy did something bad to white people shortly after writing anti-white things, as if that somehow equates the situation to Dylan Roof.

I guess you nor OP read his manifesto. Full of racist rants. Played the race card all the time at the TV station according to co-workers. Filed an EEO claim alleging racism which went nowhere. He targeted white people for assassination. I know this is hard for libs, but non Republicans can be racist and yes, African Americans can be racist.

I was not aware that the women who was shot in the back worked at the TV station. Thats for bringing that to light.

Yes, it is an opinion. You do know the saying don't you? Just because you find some Op-ed that benefits your preconceived agenda, it doesn't mean it is true. Most likely it isn't.

The two horrific incidents are very different in terms of the racial motivation and anyone without an agenda can see it easily. Was the one yesterday involved a race angle? From what I have gathered, most definitely. But he was lashing out due to what he perceived as racial incidents brought against him in addition to how the Charleston murders were covered. The Charleston murders were assissinations based on nothing but race hatred perpetuated by a common perspective of bigots. Is one worse than the other? Not in my book. Both make me equally sick.

Quit trolling

And you still whine and ***** while thinking you are making a point. All you are doing is exposing your ***. But you are good at it and you have no credibility because of it.

You are a troll. It is simple as that. Just go away.

The alleged suspect in the on air Virginia shootings, Vester Flanagan, had previously sued an employer on claims of racism back in 2000. This report surfaces after Vester allegedly tweeted that one of his victims had been ‘racist.’
In 2000, Vester Flanagan, then 26, filed a lawsuit against his then-employer, the Tallahassee affiliate of NBC. Vester, who is suspected of killing WDBJ news employees Alison Parker, 24, and Adam Ward, 27, during a gruesome shooting on the morning of Aug. 26, had just been fired from the outlet at the time of the lawsuit. Following the shooting, Vester, who also previously worked at WDBJ, allegedly took to Twitter, writing that Alison had “made racist comments.”

The Tallahassee Democrat published an article on the subject at the time of the lawsuit, an excerpt from which you can read below:

A local television anchor-reporter, slated to lose his job with Tallahassee’s NBC affiliate in two weeks, has filed a racial discrimination suit against the station — alleging that news producers and other managers made offensive remarks about blacks and fired him for complaining about it.

Management of WTWC-TV, Channel 40, said the station was having a “reduction in staff” requiring the firing, but that the company was proud of its diversity record.

Vester Flanagan, who has reported for WTWC-TV since last March, said he and another black employee were referred to as “monkeys” and that a supervisor once told him that “blacks are lazy and do not take advantage of free money” for scholarships and economic opportunities. He said when he cited his own background of nearly seven years in television, going back to internships at San Francisco State University, the supervisor told him he was an “exception.”

Flanagan, 26, said Thursday he was told on Feb. 9 his employment contract will not be renewed after March 15. Since filing suit late last month, he said, “their reaction has been more of arrogance and retaliation — they told me, ‘This is war,’ and there could be no compromise.”

The case was ultimately settled, however, details of the terms are unavailable. After being fired from WDBJ, Vester again filed a complaint, seeking $15,000 in damages. The case was dismissed.

Following a manhunt and police confrontation, Vester shot himself in the head. He is alive, in critical condition.

And you're a liberal idiot that will not acknowledge fact. The mainstream media made a much bigger deal of Roof's racist shootongs, than Flanagan's and it isn't close. Libya simply won't acknowledge that Dems are racist and that he media covers for them.

Show us his manifesto. I haven't been able to find it but from the articles I've read he was all over the board on all kinds of things, of which race hatred was only one aspect. Also, he said he was racist against blacks. Also he said he liked the Columbine shooters, who were white, and the VT shooter, who was Asian. Trying to paint this guy as a straight race hater, like Dylan Roof, is ridiculous.

In this thread we learn that liberals will defend certain racists and even make excuses for their misguided beliefs. The very same liberals are intolerant of all excuses for other racists and they judge them based on the color of their skin. Interesting.

It's easy google it. HE PLEDGED TO START A RACE WAR. HE TARGETED WHITE PEOPLE. Why the excuses? Roof was crazy but I didn't see any conservatives making excuses. Why do libs excuse this deplorable behavior and simply refer to it as workplace violence? HE WAS A RACIST.
