He was a dumbass for doing it right there in plain sight but stuff like that and worse happens under many piles. Mike Lawrence, one of the meanest linebackers I’ve seen at state, sacked tim Ellis, rolled him over and spit in his face. No penalty.
Spitting on a player is awful. Assess the 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty, sure. Ejection is over the top.
I gotta disagree. Call me anything you want. It's called trash talk. But... spitting on?
I've seen minor altercations turn violent and nearly deadly because spitting on someone is just a human visceral trigger. I don't know all the reasons why, but it's a whole different level of disrespect. Like, slapping your wife or kids level of disrespect.
Don't 17ing do it unless you're ready to punch for your life.
For legal reference, in most states, even where the constraints of free speech is tight, spitting on someone is considered misdemeanor assault.

He should get a another 2 game suspension!
Actually that kind of behavior needs to be eliminated. He will be suspended for at least one extra game, and he is getting off light. He should be banned for a long time.
Absolutely not! Like I said, it's an unsportsmanlike penalty for sure. I Just don't think it rises to the level of an immediate ejection. Likewise, the "taunting" penalty later in the game where the defender looked down at a guy after he tackled him didn't rise to the level of an unsportsmanlike penalty.
The announcers were talking all game about the new league emphasis on "respecting your opponent". Sounds like the NFL is trying to tighten things up and I don't agree with it.
Hell yes it should be an ejection. It should be an ejection and mandatory 4 game unpaid suspension.
Eagles lose their best defensive lineman and Landon Dickerson and still cruise to an opening win over the hapless Cowboys. Ceedee Lamb needs to put some stick’em on his gloves.
I'm sure they all knew the penalty going into the season and the game.
