East Burke and Draughn want out of the SMAC

Both schools would make sense in the SD7 if it did not already have 8 schools. East Burke has a better case for wanting to go to the SD7 (although it would still be a haul to East Lincoln) than Draughn has of moving to the Western Highlands. I didn't want either of them in either, but Draughn should have been more careful what they wished for. They wanted no part of a conference very similar to the Western Highlands and as a result they ended up in the SMAC so they kinda deserve those beatings by Cleveland County schools.

This would create so much chaos for the 7 remaining SMAC schools trying to find 2 more nonconference opponents. Especially the Cleveland County schools. Burns had enough trouble trying to replace Ashbrook and Freedom, who both dropped us. And besides, I can't remember the NCHSAA ever approving a conference switch mid-alignment period without changing classification. So I look for East Burke and Draughn to stick around for 2 more years. They made their beds, they should have to lie in them for 2 years.

Ideally i would love to trade East Burke and Draughn for Lincolnton and West Lincoln. Or even just West Lincoln for Draughn. But that would never happen.

What a bunch of crap. They need to learn how to take their medicine, and shut up.

Neither wanted the SMAC. Especially Draughn. But Draughn (and maybe also East Burke) rejected a conference very similar to the one Draughn wants to move to. It sounds like sour grapes to me.

They were placed in a conference which would have made them travel up the hill, they said they did not want that, so the State placed them in the SMAC. Now that the butt whippings have commenced they want out.

To be honest who wants to play them? I can't speak for the Crest team, but as a fan who travels to every game it is certainly no fun. They can't compete. But, they asked for it.

They should nut up for two more years and quit crying.

If they are allowed to move to new conferences the remaining SMAC teams will have to go find 2 games to fill the void for the next 2 years. That can be very difficult for some teams. If allowed this could create a big mess with scheduling.

Any teams looking for non-conference games in the coming years contact AC Reynolds, South Caldwell and South Point both dropped us this year. We are searching also. As for this conference switch, can't see the NCHSAA approving it, they made ACR play in the NW4A for years despite our efforts to get out due to travel.

I just don't see the State granting this. I don't think they will grant the wishes of 2 schools only to screw up the schedules of 10-15 other schools. We had a down year and still had a very hard time getting teams to play us. Even Charlotte Harding, who was open week one and with twice our student population, laughed when our AD called and said there is no way we would play ya'll. How would Crest and Shelby fill these dates ? Realignment is coming up in two years anyway. Maybe they would compete in that 1a/2a conference but I don't see them winning much at all in the SD7.

I do agree with tweeter that swapping out West Lincoln and Lincolnton would be a great option. These programs could be way more competitive especially Lincolnton but I am positive they would fight against it. They get enough of CC in middle school ball.

I have a solution - leave East Burke and Draughn in and throw Hunter Huss and Stuart Cramer in the SMAC 2A for the next two years, send Burns, Crest, and KM to the Big South 3A.

Let em go. SMAC needs tougher opponents anyway. When you have cleveland county in a conference they need to be tested by teams from gaston and Mecklenburg counties. I even feel like Lincoln County would be much better competition.

Seadog would welcome such a realignment. He and I both know you only improve by playing in a strong conference. This split conference stuff makes a pasture of cow patties smell sweet.

I've wondered why Burns don't play Lincoln County teams. I know we played them in baseball a few times when I was in school.

Because the state wants to cut down on travel and Lincoln county is closer to us than anybody so that's why we DONT play them. Makes a lot of sense don't it Ron? I heard you were spotted up around Dirty Ankle the other day.

+2 sasha, lawndog is just worrying that I might have a heart attack celebrating. Don't think Shelby would like it much though.

Who cares what they like? We certainly don't. They can become a non conference game, like they should be, for money purposes.

Poor eastern Burke County. They are always done wrong. The communities of George Hildebran, Hildebran, and Icard are looked at like they are the Bermuda Triangle.

Pitsy and Pasty on a conference call with Johnathan " Tuffy " Phillips, the new Commissioner of this outfit.

Pitsy and Patsy : " We shore would love to change environments and whatnot, and even though the 1-A Conference we desire entry into will put more miles on the busses, we desire to change environments with those mouthing breathin' heathens . "
John " Tuffy " Phillips : " Go to hell. " CLICK;.

Would be really beneficial for Crest to get them off the schedule and just add two solid nonconference games. Well 3 after they drop kick Roberson and replace them with Reynolds.

Does anybody think this passes? To me it gutless to even ask. Why are they even given a platform and not just told no?

I think East Burke and Draaughn should put an AD on Craigslist:

Wanted - teams we can beat. Prefer 1A schools and teams like Cramer, Lake Norman Charter, and St. Stephens. Will pay top dollar.

I think the mileage thing does not matter that much. The ADM's on the other hand do for the fairness to the kids. The NCHSAA can be a little vindictive like I think they may have been with Draughn. I know Draughn asked out of the frying pan but I don't think they were asking to be thrown into the fire. I think the state should go by current adm's and let Draughn go. but East Burk, there is no point in the lateral move.
Here are the ADM's for each.

East Burke High 983
Jimmy C Draughn High 722

Western Highlands 1A/2A
Hendersonville High 768
Madison High 774
Mtn. Heritage High 671
Owen High 787
Polk County High 734
Avery County High 652
Average 731

Southern District 7
Bandys High 874
Bunker Hill High 940
East Lincoln High 926
Lincolnton High 847
Maiden High 883
West Caldwell High 1070
West Lincoln High 915
Newton-‐Conover High 980
Average 929

South Mountain Ath.
Chase High 851
East Rutherford High 772
R-‐S Central High 901
Shelby High 823
Crest High 1255
Burns High 1083
Kings Mountain High 1270
Average 994

The mileage argument from East's Principle is a joke.

"East and Draughn's average road trip in the SMAC is 44.0 miles. If EB moves to the SD7, that number is cut to 31.0".

So what he is saying is if they get to move they could save $208 Per year on travel expense at $2 a mile.

Now that maybe enough to turn that program upside down!!!!

What a load of malarkey! Serves them right. They need to stay in the SMAC for the duration. I hate it for the kids but the adults who made the decisions that have them where they are need to learn a lesson too.

Draughn would get drug up and down the field by everyone in that conference except Madison.Same result but cost them more money for travel.

Deliverence.
Rhodhis trailer parks have more strippers than California has grapes. Wife was born in eastern burke county but grew up near Fred T Foard. Burke inlaws are really strange. Deliverance would sum them up. But a few were great pole dancers after lots of practise.

My proposal would be to "give" everything east of exit 113 to Catawba county.Heck most of the sales tax goes to them anyway cause folks usually don't chose to go to Morganton over Hickory to go out to eat or shop.

113 exit to Catawba line should be its own country. Burkbania. Hell they have their own language now.
