LMAO, 8th grade commitments? What? Probably about as good of a predictor on whether a kid will play all 4 years in high school as a kindergarten graduation is that a kid will graduate high school.

Several schools have started doing this. Helps build excitement and a bridge from the middle school team to the high school. Football participation has been dropping so pull out all the stops.

Dont be a Debbie downer, I like the idea because its give kids a sense of pride and that shows the football program is committed to them as well as the players are committed to the program. I love coach Minor and He had given EB something to be proud of. They may not win every game but they fight n battle till the end and Its more to football then wins and He is one of the best to teach n lead young men n woman.

Wasn't trying to be a downer. I just hadn't heard of it before. I feel like it falls into the "everyone gets a trophy" or the "look at me" mentalities we've created.

I guess whatever gets em going these days.

I don’t know about Patton but Draughn joined the WHC which has an adapted JV which is 8th and 9th graders so they have to play against teams that are like them. They may have really not had a program or they just couldn’t play a traditional schedule

Cherryville, Highland Tech, Bessemer City and Thomas Jefferson all went without JV programs last year. Our JV’s played East Gaston twice. We were able to pick up Gaffney, East Lincoln and Chase, but we also had to cancel the KM and Watauga JV games last year…a crazy year for our Burns JV team! But we won the conference.

The success of any program begins in the rec league programs through middle school. Coach Minor is very involved with both. It will pay dividends later in the East Burke program. The culture he brings to the team is paramount!

That's honestly a genius idea. I've seen it in person and lived through it but there is truly no better way to build a program up through time then heavily focusing on the middle school program and down. That's how my team won our conference title in 2017. The coaches focused heavily on the 2013 8th grade class with camps and visiting the kids, and they were ready to play JV ball as soon as they came in. On the flipside I've seen programs we played in old conferences with HC's who skipped Thursdays all together. When coaches don't care like that it can cause apathy and lack of interest which takes years to recover from. It's a hard struggle.

It might take a few years but as long as Coach Minor is left alone and allowed to stay they could have a solid consistent decade by doing this. It is possible to win there as Brown did it in his short stay. Minor's a solid coach and what they have been needing. I hope they can do it.

Biggerstaff did it too!

Remember 2007? I do! Everybody around here was good that year….especially East Burke! They beat us to start the year!

East Burke went to quarter finals in 4aa! There they were….in the same bracket with Independence, West Charlotte, and Richmond. That right there….tells ya how good they were!

They beat North Meck and the Fightin’ Scots to get there after finishing in a 3-way tie in conference with Watauga and AC Reynolds at 5-1.

Sooo…yes!….they’ve shown it’s possible to win there and I’m hoping Coach Minor does it too!

Talked to Coach Minor the other day he said this is the strongest group of kids in the weight room at East Burke so far this year that he has ever coach in all his schools he has been at. Big numbers signed up for weight lifting classes . This program is on the rise!!The Marlow kid Sr RB that was at Foard Transfer back after two year at Foard to EB and loves the way the program is looking. He wasted a year last year at Foard he has a lot of catching up after switching schools!! Coach said he has moved his last time so that is a good sign for the future of this program!!

I remember that. That was right before they lost half their students to Draughn and they moved all the way down to 2A.
