Just got back from Big Dawg....

First off, I don't think anyone committed. <div>
</div><div>WR</div><div>Our WR commits are sick.</div><div>DeAndre Woods is a full grown man. I think he is 40. BJ Hammond is the same. The Christy kid looked great. Hopefully we can get him. Everyone else looks pedestrian compared to those 3. Morrow was out there and all 3 of them looked more physically opposing than he did and they are still in HS.</div><div>
</div><div>OL</div><div>Jake Thomas was there. Looked great. He's got really long arms. Looks like a true LT. Mix was there. Big mofo. Macaffey was there. Looked OK. Kent Flowers looked long and strong. He looks like the most physically gifted OL in the bunch. </div><div>Porkchop was there and looked good. He lost a lot of weight. Almost didn't recognize him.</div><div>
</div><div>DL</div><div>Crayton was a no-show. Didn't really hear a bunch of positive hims about him either. Billings (waco,tx) is the guy we were after and was there. He's Quay-ish in build. Chris Jones from Houston, MS is a freak. Big, ripped, and fast. Looks like he could play anywhere in the country.</div><div>
</div><div>RB</div><div>Kailo is fast as 17. He wasobviouslyfaster than anyone out there. Part of his speed is the fact he is so smooth. </div><div>Shumpert was there. He's a man. Looks like he could LB if he wanted too. </div><div>
</div><div>QB</div><div>Gabe Myles was there working out with the QBs. There was a pudgy white kid (junior) that looked like he threw the ball better than anyone. No clue who he was.</div><div>
</div><div>DB</div><div>Cortez Leonard wasdisappointingin my eyes. He didn't look any better than one else out there. Matter of fact, he looked a little out of shape. The kid that iscommittedto Memphis that we are still on, looks great. I think he ran a 4.2-4.3 early in the day. The Voohries kid looks like he will be a good one. The staff had him workout with both the WRs and DBs. Smoot was there making them work hard. I hope he coaches for us one day.</div><div>
</div><div>Side notes...</div><div>Jerious was there. Milton and Robinson showed up to meet him. They looked star struck. It was kinda funny. I know I'm going to get blasted for this, but Robinson looks like Trent Richardson. He is a 5'10'' ball of muscle. He looked freakish. </div><div>
</div><div>Tony Conner was a no show, but there was a positive vibe out there about him. I'm not going to say we are leading, but from what a lot of people are saying, we aredefinitelyin the game. Uncle Nick doesn't have him inthebag just yet.</div><div>
</div><div>I know myself and Coach34 are against Richie Brown playing next year because he'll be no more than a special teamer. I'm changing my tune. He IS physically ready. He looked like he was 225-230 lbs. I think he COULD have an impact if he played. I'm not saying he should, but I do think he could legitimately be more than a special teamer. Don't be surprised if he's on the field this season.</div><div>
</div><div>Dak Prescott looks ready. He will be special. That dude looks like a Bama linebacker. He is going to punish some people this year.</div>

Thanks for the update. I am liking the idea of WR's bigger than 5'10"

Anyone know why Conner didn't show? Was he not coming anyway? I really wish he could have spent some time with Smoot, and had some of our commits really get in his ear about coming to State. I'm excited about the WR's too. Can you elaborate more on Dak? What was he doing, and how did he look doing it? I don't want to get wooly, but I just feel like Dak is the perfect size and skill for Dan to shape and mold into an Alex Smith/Tebow type of player. Could be fun watching him grow over the next few years. Thanks for the info

Dak was just walking around. From the stands, you cant tell how big he really is. He looks beastly when stand next next to him.<div>
</div><div>I'll say this about Conner (I know this is fact), don't even think you or anyone else will have a clue what he is thinking. He is going to take care of business on the field and not say much to reporters. No one is going to know his plans till the day he announces. He's doesn't want any attention anddoesn'twant to commit anywhere because of the pressure it puts on you from other schools. Especially if you go to USP. He wants to keep his cards close to his sleeve.</div><div>
</div><div>As MSU, we need to all just forget that TC exists and not make assumptions about his recruitment.</div>

Cadaver, I could be way off on this, but my gut feeling is that we are leading for Connor, but he doesn't want the pressure of people knowing that. I am also not worried that he wasn't there for two reasons: 1. He wasn't at anyone else's camp, and 2. We have to remember that we have Mix in his ear everyday. IMO, if we were are going to get this guy, his recruitment is going and sounding just right.

How many times do highly rated guys from SEC country go to the Big 12? I just don't see that happening. Gotta beat out UGA, and I'm hoping he wants to stay home really bad. I like our chances with him. That would be a huge get for us and it would be another highly rated MS kid we keep in state away from the big time SEC programs.

I think he pulled a groin too. He looked good and was in shape. He looked like the cookie cutter 5'11 180 lb wr. NO WAY is he 6'2. I'm 6'2'' (and absolutely 17 shredded) and walked by him and thought he was of average build. <div>It was just hard to get noticed with the big 3 out there. Woods, Hammond, and Shelby are that much better than everyone else IMO. </div>

Not saying he escapes oxford at the end of the day, but it seems that he is at least leaving his options open. He apparently didn't show up in oxford either. The guy is a five star anyway, so no one needs to see him camp.

I understand that he projects at DB, but is he good enough to play QB if Sandberg doesn't work out?

because his girlfriend lived at my dorm last year and I'll say he's more 5'8/5'9ish but he is solid as cement.

We've got to hold on to Hammond and Woods, it sounds like they have a high ceiling. I have a feeling that their stock is gonna rise a lot, and the big schools are sure to notice. Same with the coast guy.. his name escapes me..

there said Christie looked better than those two, but at the same time, Hammond and Woods had both played in a 7v7 tournament earlier in the day. We will have a good haul regardless and a better haul if we get Christie.

Richie is not going to RS from most accounts- he is going to be on all ST's and get in when he can...and I cant wait to see Dak run the zone read

I'm hearing we have had a great camp and have a commit coming our way later on
We need to talk Smoot into coming on the staff- we really do. Melvin needs to be reassigned like we do all other old, loyal coaches

This may just be me, and I love what Smoot is doing with these camps and sticking around the program, but does anyone else feel like if he was on our staff, he would be an NCAA violation waiting to happen? I love Fred, but I wouldn't feel comfortable w him unless he knew and understood the rule book backwards and forwards.

And by all accounts a great coach. He would be our Trooper Taylor without the towel and with actual coaching ability.

la. I think it was that impressed everyone so much? And it sounds like the last Olineman we take may be the kid from alabama. From all accounts that i have read there were some really good performances by some people that weren't very well known and we will have a good shot with them.

apparently the kid from La really showed out. His name just plopped right onto our board. Mullen and the guys always find a couple of guys at this camp every year that are a little under the radar. Sounds like they found a couple more this year as well. Been a really good camp.

Fred has been away from college 20 years and still does not have a degree. He has no coaching experience. I'm not sure that he has interest in WORKING his way up the coaching ladder. Why do we need to pasture Melvin? He seems to be a pretty good job with coaching (see John Banks) and recruiting (see Kailo Moore). If his age is really a concern, that standard would put Nick Saban in the nursing home.

From watching him coach the kids first hand, I can honestly say that Smoot has what it takes to coach. When he speaks, the kids listen. He is very to-the-point. Not to mention his enthusiasm is contagious. He is every bit asfieryas Manny was. And there is no questionthathe knows his ****. He'd make a great recruiter too. <div>
</div><div>As for Melvin, he does a great job too. </div>

he can teach young guys how to play DB, relate to them, and be very valuable to our school.

I've known Melvin a long time and he has been very good for us- but Smoot is next generation good
