I believe there’s currently discussion about college athletes and whether they are employees. At this point, might as well just give in and say they are then bind them with employment contracts to stop the madness.

The schools are to blame they don’t want employee classification and the ncaa acts in the interested of the schools

No duh. But there’s a fight taking place arguing that athletes are employees. I’m saying the schools should stop fighting that.

So then no Fernandes transferring here?
We don't get Cam in the first place last year?

Or do we only force players to stay at Rutgers and not other schools?
I’m fine with that. Make them 3 or 4 yr contracts with out clauses. If an athlete wants to break the contract fine, but there’s a 1-yr sit out similar to a non compete.

Why pay an employee directly when you can get others to pay?

Schools don't even want to pay for scholarships - that's why they look to endow everything.

Ideal world the school receives $100m in media revenue and just spends it on itself.
"Boosters" pay for coaches, players, everything else.

They are employees whether the NCAA wants them to be or not; it's been a minute since I last read the Supreme Court ruling, but I believe they essentially confirmed this (it may have been in the Kavanaugh concurring opinion).

Checking in to see if it was madness when Palmquist, Reiber, Miller and Fernandez used the transfer portal this year cause I didn't see you make this thread for those moves. Is it only madness when we lose someone you like to stay on the team? Not to mention an RU Graduate to boot. Was it madness when Gettys or Yeboah were graduate transfers coming to RU?

Wtf are you talking about? I’m not saying it’s madness just because Cam bailed. I’m saying it’s madness because it’s creating an environment of chaos. I don’t mind that Cam left as it’s within his right to do so. Much like it was Fernandes right. The only thing that sucks is that he left so late.

Chaos? It’s May.

Hell, everyone here has been expecting RU to dip back into the portal beyond today anyway for a 4/5 man (I personally don’t see it unless cliff doesn’t return).

What if the school they are attending no longer offers the major they want.

Do they care?

If you care that much about the major you take and it’s such a priority maybe sign a contract worth least with a smaller buy out if that major is a priority.

If we’re signing contracts is it really about the major anyway.

I don’t know the answer, but this current format sure as heck isn’t it.

Wtf are YOU talking about? Point is, why are you only concerned now about chaos af a grad transfer leaving when that has been going on for years?

Agree.

Chaos is chaos. And the current state of college basketball is chaos.

Sometimes ru has benefited from the chaos (ace assuming he sticks), sometimes we’ve been burned (cam).

Doesn’t change the fact that the landscape of college basketball is no rules - ie chaos

Personally it leaves a bad taste in my mouth (particularly this NIL stuff) regardless if RU benefits sometimes.

Let’s be real - this isn’t a kid being paid for the legitimate value of his NIL - this is using the concept of NIL as an excuse to pay kids off without ramifications.

Why continue to complain about something that is distasteful to you which will continue and is beyond your control. What is on your control is to stop following the sport/team etc.

99.99% of people who complain or comment about ANYTHING on a message board or ANYWHERE or any any other social media platform can’t do a single thing about the matter they are commenting or complaining about

If 99.99% of people can’t do a thing about the matter they are commenting or complaining about I guess they should just shut this message board down

I'm not a lawyer but... in my layman's terms
The NCAA doesn't make rules limiting coaches' compensation or their ability to leave a job - that would be an anti-trust violation

If the NCAA declared athletes were employees - they also could not limit their compensation or ability to change jobs.

NBA owners do this by negotiating with the players union - collectively the players give up some rights in order to get some other concessions from the owners.

College athletes unionizing and effectively negotiating with the NCAA to make this better has so many hurdles and landmines it's hard to imagine what that would look like.

Got it. So essentially you are just riding along with the whole societal victimization and complaining mentality. Bravo for you. Since I see more posters doing this observationally....is your next step to continually threaten to "quit" college sports because it has become so distasteful to you.....only to continue to complain more and then continue to threaten to give up tickets/stop watching and quit over and over again?

Well, that was weird.

I said I don’t like the state of NIL right now. I didn’t touch on the rest of what’s in your rambling, strange post - eg, “Victimization” wtf are you talking about. Just weird.

If people commenting or complaining about things they can’t control has become so distasteful to you maybe you need to quit this message board because that’s pretty much what any message board is - people commenting and complaining about things they can’t control
