Louisville and Kentucky are about to find out the hard way how true this is, ie having two major conference teams in a smaller population state. However, in their case, it isn't strictly population as it is football talent base. We have a smaller population but pound for pound a good amount of football talent.

Kansas and Iowa are too comparable states to Mississippi in population, yet they don't have football talent there. And they are less successful by and large than MSU/Ole Miss.

People used to say South Carolina is another example, but they have almost as many folks as Alabama and now, when pushed to potential, you can see what that state is capable of producing.

I'm trying to figure out what ESPN's next Ole Miss feature is going to be. I

was thinking maybe a Hugh Freeze Tent Revival or something along those lines.

Blank Stare....... ESPN doing what ESPN does. Highlight inconsequential ******** that ups the drama for their game of the week. Jesus I wish Fox Sports One would have more conference contracts so we could stop having to listen to this ****.

Note: Alabama articles don't include all the farming nomenclature. 17 writers, how about getting off the stereotypical ********. We have other things in this state than farmers. dick.

one of Hearst III's grandkids somehow wound up at Ole Miss.

Looks to me to be pretty accurate and well-written. Y'all are acting like it's some kind of Ole Miss puff piece. The premise is something we say over and over - Sustained success is tough for either of the Mississippi schools.

I believe they hinted what it might be. Ole Miss gets the **** kicked out of them by Bama, Tigers, & TAM.

The reason Bama looked like hell last week was a let down from the previous week and looking forward to the *** whipping this week. If they don't fumble the ball on the one they would of crushed TAM. This is the only reason the spread is 15+ instead of 21+.

The article itself is fairly accurate but why is it that everyone seems so focused on our record versus the top 25?

Who is the last top 25 team Ole Miss beat?

Wondering that myself. I chuckled at this sentence ...

Where Mississippi State is seen as treading water, winning its fair share of games without a truly signature win, Ole Miss has emerged as the hot topic, an up-and-coming program that's aiming higher than simply winning its state.

The writer changes criteria mid-sentence; from winning a signature game to "emerging a the hot topic".

Squeaking by Vandy that got ***-raped by USCe? Beating Texas that got ***-raped by BYU the week before. Neither USCe nor BYU appear to be all-world either.

Mullen's Georgia, Florida and Michigan wins top both of those. Rebs' flavor of the week hype will fade considerably after Bama smacks them around.

IF the Rebel-Bear-Sharks beat Bama then I will tip my cap and give them full credit. NO credit for "making it interesting".

Kentucky has a lot more people than Mississippi, plus they can draw recruits out of Indiana and super populated Ohio. They can support two big programs in the state. The problem has been basketball being the number one sport for those schools.

It's interesting that our sec west championship and sec championship game

Appearance fails to get mentioned. But, that co-west championship doesn't. Anyone that can't see that this article is slighted is blind. There is a lot of truth, but it's written with a slant.

Bovinescatology.

Nebraska is as white as snow. No home grown talent. Has a history of winning. Small population. The difference is a win at all costs attitude, yeah, they bought their program.

The difference is historical leadership at MSU has been awful.
No excuse for us to be as awful as we have been post-intergration.
Umiss willing to do whatever it takes. Us, not so much.

Too lazy to look it up, but isn't our record against UM about even since 1980 or so? Neither one of us has much to crow about, football wise. But hey, at least we've BEEN to the SECCG. Did I just crow?

Ok, wrong.

Mississippi State and UM can both be good, but MSU needs to get back to doing what MSU does. We need to get back to getting the best JUCO players. HIRE STEVE!!!!! 2 birds, 1 stone.

The year MSU BEAT GEORGIA AND FLORIDA was those 2 perspective schools worst football teams in forever. Georgia was 6-6 and Florida as 7-5. I will bet you now that Vandy and Texas finish better than that.

That co western champion ole miss team would have killed the west division winner by default MSU TEAM. And I mean not even close. Ole miss maybe the only team to go 7-1 without going to Atlanta. that I call is bad luck.

And if those two teams beat us like they were favored and supposed to have:

UGA is 2-2 going into Colorado and feeling a lot more confident in their season. They probably beat Colorado to go 8-4.

Florida is also 8-4 and looks way better.

As for this year, you're full of **** on Vandy. They struggled against a winless, probably one of the worst in FBS teams in UMass.

Texas will not get to 6 wins. Mississippi State has a better chance at a bowl than Texas does. They have 2 games left that they will be favored in at this point, Kansas and Iowa State. The rest of the teams in the Big 12 are better than they are. 4 of them are ranked and the other 2 are TCU and West Virginia. Texas plays both of those teams on the road. Texas is a 4 or 5 win team.

If this were the case, why is that 1999 MSU team still the highest ranked team in MS since Archie Manning left Ole Miss --- and also the only team in that time period to finish with just 2 losses?

Oh -- that's right -- your "Return to Glory" team lost to Texas Tech and Memphis.... Seems that was left out of your description...

That Texas team you beat... you know, the one without their starting QB and a defense that had just given up 600 yards and 40+ points to BYU (who only scored 13 points in a loss to Utah last week... Utah, BTW, lost to Eastern Washington) and the week after firing their defensive coordinator... will be lucky to win 6 games. Congrats, you caught them at their worst in 20 years. And Vandy? They were up 3 points going into the 4th quarter to one of the worst teams in the FBS. So yea... there's that.

I'll just say this... If it were us that were 3-0 this year instead of you, you'd be spoonfeeding us the same **** you guys did last year... that we haven't beaten anybody worth mentioning. Vandy? so what... they are vandy and Texas is awful AND they didn't have the quarterback who torched your defense in Oxford last year. So wait until you guys can actually pull off a win in T-Town before blowing your supremacy horn.

To be fair, the media was all up on our jocks in 2010/2011 too, and Ole Miss is riding their individual wave. Plus the fact that Mullen's name came up in every single coaching search there was, and Freeze is pretty much known to be an Ole Miss guy.

And no, Ole Miss hasn't beaten anybody. They aren't that great. They are just riding a little momentum.

OK, you just exposed yourself as either a woman or a borderline sports retard with that statement.

No way in hell Vandy and Texas end up 8-4 and 7-5 (which is what it would take to be "better than that") this season. I will eat my cowbell if that happens.

Exactly...

People forget the momentum we had with the media all offseason between 2010 and 2011 and imagine what they now have is some grand OM conspiracy. Hell, they are now sitting EXACTLY where we were sitting in 2012 where you have a road game with Bama separating you from REAL hype and expectations...

I think you're wrong on Nebraska. They have had lots of homegrown stars. But like any top program, they did bring in talent from elsewhere.
