Hard to believe that the only argument is that we're not higher. Marshall's probably the better runner by a shade but I think Dak is significantly better passer.

They ranked the entire depth chart. I guess they like Johhnson better than Williams.

Then again, they have Bo Wallace ranked third, so you can take the rest of it with a grain of salt.

Where would you rank him? 3300 yards passing, 350 yards rushing, 24 combined touchdowns, 10 picks.

Phil Steele is an idiot. He knows how to crunch numbers, but he doesn't know about football. Sometimes, he's right. But he's wrong a lot of the times too. And when he's wrong, he can be spectacularly wrong.

Wallace is a much better QB than a lot of MSU (and a lot of UM) fans want to admit.

Good read ... Also noticed that that 4 of top 5 are SEC West teams ...

1) Aub 2) MSU 3) OM 5) Bama General comments ...

QB is the THE MOST important position on any football team and lot of SEC QB experience has departed. Keeping the starting QB healthy will be HUGE

SEC West teams and the East teams we play ...

- Aub (#1) Granted, Marshal is really good but little backup experience behind him
- State (#2) has Dak, with experience and high ceiling ... Plus, a reliable backup with 6 games of experience
- OM (#3) Has Bo, with experience ... and no other QB has played a single down
- Bama (#5) QB has been on 'autopilot' with AJ ... Corker has 'potential' but little playing time behind Winston at FSU; Coaches have never seemed to trust Blake Sims
- LSU (#10) has two unknowns ... true freshman Brandon Harris and little used SO Anthony Jennings
- Tx A&M (#12) Zero experience ... has to find a QB between 'currently suspended' SO Kenny Hill and true freshman Kyle Allen ... now that Jeockel transfered
- Ark (#13) Brandon Allen has experience but has been injured a lot. Zero experience behind him

- Vandy (#11) SO Robinette has played some last year and seemed like the logical choice until Rivers transfers in from LSU. Rivers, who is really 6' 8", only appeared in 4 games in his 3 years at LSU and kept slipping down the depth chart. Vandy has new coaching staff ... too many unknowns to have a clue
- Ky (#14) Little experienced RS SO Towles looked good in the spring ... zero experience after him ... a RS FR and true FR

2011-Phil Steele says Ole Miss has the second best offensive line in America. That says enough.

I agree Pat, he can play. The best way to stop Bo's running is to force him to

go East and West, he isn't quick enough to be effective but he can really hurt you running north and south.

When have we ever been wooly and things turned out right? I can't remember a time. The only time things go well is when we least expect them.

as a 51 yr old, it's hard to dispute that quote. I keep waiting for that one time that we live up to and maybe even exceed pre-season expectations. Please Football Gods, Let it Be, finally. We've paid the price, let us cash in this year.

Not sure if you're only talking about football expectations, but I'd say that the 2013 baseball team lived up to the hype when they were ranked in the top 5 of the Baseball America preseason poll and finished as the national runner-up.

I`ve just convinced myself that Dak is one of those guys that has "it" to go along with his big time athletic ability. This is the most enthusiastic I`ve been about an MSU QB since we signed John Bond. If he stays healthy he may be the best we`ve ever had.

Take it with a grain of salt, better yet a full spoon. He ranks Bama's transfer from FSU 5th and he has yet to practice with the team much less play a down. I would have UF, Arky, USCe QB's with SEC starting experience ahead of this.

Marshall's backup has enough experience for everyone over here to know that he's going to be a holy terror. He's going to remind a lot of people of a recent cowbell ringing son of a preacher man.

I have all the confidence in the world in Dak, but I also have a very uneasy feeling that we are 17ed if he gets hurt. Yes... I get that Williams was only a freshman in the SEC last year, but I am not nearly as high on him yet as a lot of you seem to be.

We are 17ed if Dak goes down. But every SEC team is 17ed if there starter goes down. It is what it is. No backup is as good as the starter, so each team is an injury at QB away from their season changing a good bit. We're still a bowl team without Dak though, so no reason to fear an injury.

I disagree. When an opposing team's starter goes down while playing MSU (or the week before), the 2nd string guy always plays like Peyton Manning and what should have been an advantage turns into a nightmare...

I disagree. Damian wasn't quite ready for the reigns last year -- but he's pretty close now. He's got as much arm talent as any QB I remember at MSU...

Yeah he got thrown into the fire last year but I thought he played fine for the amount of experience he had. Should be a solid player from here out.

I know that Marshall is one of the luckier QB's in the conf... just ask Dan Mullen, Mark Richt, & Nick Saban

actually Payton, who as the 3rd string QB ...

As a freshman, Manning was the third-string quarterback, but injuries to Todd Helton and Jerry Colquitt forced him to take over the Mississippi State game, a 24–21 loss. In his first start, the following week against Washington State, the Vols won, 10–9, and the Vols won all but one of their remaining games, finishing the season 8–4 with a 45–23 victory over Virginia Tech in the Gator Bowl.[SUP][[/SUP]
