SMH. The Evan Mitchell experiment is O V E R! This will be a loss cause Cohen will let him walk and/or score 6 of their runners before he realizes he can't be counted on. Memphis is not a team to experiment with. Is he 17'ing Evan's mom?

Me too. We're going to need Mitchell and Woodruff to get going at some point. They probably have 10 innings combined in the last month. I'd like to see Gentry get some innings too.

The biggest concern I have is I don't want to see Ross Mitchell throw 4 or 5 innings tonight. As long as that doesn't happen and we get the W, I'll be fine with it.

I would give the start to Woodruff, Gentry, Pollo (owns CUSA teams) or Everett Kinard before I would ever let Evan Mitchell start another game for State.

Anybody but Evan Mitchell. He will HBP, wild pitch or walk no less than 6 runs for Memphis. Book it. 98 mph fastballs are useless when Jim Ellis is ducking in the press box

So you would start your Friday night starter in a midweek game?

haha yeah, we can't throw Pollo today, but if you wanted to make the case for Woodruff I wouldn't argue. Woodruff has thrown some over the last couple weeks though, Mitchell has not. Maybe he's looking better in practice. We shall see.

You've got to give him another shot. He hasn't pitched in a month. Sometimes the best thing to get a pitcher throwing better is to sit his *** on the bench.

In relief? Sure, as long as his leash is extremely short. Not as a starter. Memphis is not a team to test the mental abilities of a pitcher who is questionable to say the least.

Memphis is a marginal team and our best chance to give guys opportunities for redemption for the rest of the year.

We've got to have either Mitchell or Woodruff step up to truly be elite. Can't have your two best MLB pitching prospects sitting on the bench when the game is on the line. Woody has gotten two chances since Evan last got a chance. It's his turn. People forget that he's only had 1 truly terrible start this year. He's been wild, yes, but has had several quality starts as well. Obviously, he's done well enough in non-pressure situations to earn another chance in the eyes of Butch and Cohen...

Personally, I think he comes out tomorrow and is lights out -- gets us thru 3, Woody gets 2, Cox gets 2, Gentry gets 1, Bracewell gets 1. Ideally, we jump all over them and can get all these guys work in game situations. Either way, I'm getting these pitchers that we are going to need to make a serious run in the postseason work tomorrow regardless of outcome.

I would much rather use him tomorrow against Memphis to see if he's back instead of trotting him out there in game 5 of a regional and not knowing.

This needs to be our "redemption" game. Our bullpen has sucked in the last month outside of R. Mitchell and Holder. Time to get these guys back in a groove for the biggest four weeks of the regular season.

I'm looking at you, Evan, Woody, Gentry, Girodo, and maybe even Bracewell to a degree. Hopefully at least three of those guys get to pitch tomorrow, and we need them to all pitch well.

At some

point we are going to have to have this guys (with Woody) step up. He hasn't started in forever. We might as well give him a chance.

Makes me nervous, but someone has to trot out there. Dicey situation tomorrow night. Winning will not help us any, but losing will be a rpi kick in the family jewels. Memphis is 111 in Warren Nolan's rpi. Everybody better come to play. 2 more ooc games that we HAVE to win. Memphis only used 6 pitchers all weekend against USM. Haven't researched their down-the-line pitching yet.

Agree 100%.

I'm excited to see Evan pitch. I think he throws 3-4 innings and K's 5-6. Obviously, he will walk at least 1, but hopefully no more than 1 or 2.

Serious question, if Evan does come out tomorrow and pitches very well, would you feel comfortable with him throwing some this weekend? I still would not. He's going to have to prove to me that he can be consistent before I put him back in a crucial game. But I do think he needs to get innings. You don't just abandon a guy with his stuff. Just like Devin Jones, you have to give them opportunities to overcome. So I'm good with him pitching tomorrow.

I don't want him to ever start an SEC or Regional type game unless we are running through a losers bracket and out of pitching....but out of the pen he would be great. We pitch Ross and Holder WAY too much in meaningless situations, and to me that's a terrible waste. I already feel like Ross is getting fatigued...he's been leaving the ball up a lot lately which is the first sign of fatigue. We need a guy like Evan that we can bring in with a 3+ run lead in the 8th or 9th of a SEC game and close the door so we don't have to pitch Holder 3 straight days.

People can tell me that Holder is fine and it doesn't hurt him or Ross to pitch 2 or 3 days straight, and I say bull ****. Can they do it? Yes. Is it good for them though? No. It may not ever cost us a game, but if we can put Evan into that 6-0 game against Auburn in the 8th, or that 15-4 A&M game in the 8th or 9th, we have got to do it. You cant risk over throwing Holder or Ross in a blowout in my opinion.

Agree. We've been overusing both of them. Partly because we haven't had as many options as we thought we would. But still, no need for Holder to pitch in that 3rd game this weekend.

Totally agree. No sense in not putting Bracewell in in that situation. He had even been warming up...makes zero sense to run Holder back out there with a warm Bracewell in the pen.

Completely agree here. This game and Oral Roberts is a sure-fire chance to get our Bullpen some work (Oral Roberts isn't a terrible team, either... Warren Nolan only has them a few spots behind Memphis, currently). We've got the bullpen to NOT have to rely on Ross, Holder, or Pollo in midweek games. If this were my team, these last 2 OOC would be a challenge to my bullpen to step up, because it is reaching the point of the season where EVERYONE will be needed and our pen will be stretched much further than a weekend vs. Auburn.

As others have stated, we NEED to rely on Woody, Evan, Cox, Gentry, Bracewell, and Girodo in these games, and unless someone is throwing lights out, we should rotate between all those guys. Another opportunity would be if, by chance, we are losing/winning big in a weekend game, these guys need to be on the mound (see Trevor Fitts... he had a VERY productive time on the mound Saturday against Auburn). We will need a confident bullpen in the postseason, and it's time for these guys to step up.
