I was talking to fellow State grad the other day. I don'tthink he posts on this board, so I doubt this has been shared. He said he was flipping between State-Arkansas and the Duke-UNC game the other night and his wife came and sat down beside him. She is not a basketball fan (or sports fan), but I'm guessing, like my wife, she is forced to watch a fair amount of State athletics. After watching for a few minutes, she just randomly asks him, "Who coaches these teams [i.e. Duke & UNC]?" He said he told her and then asked why she cared? She said, "These teams look like they are much better coached than State's team." He said he was just floored because she doesn't care at all about sports, so he asked her why she thought so. Her response, and I'm paraphrasing here, "They just pass it real, like crisp, and stuff and they move the ball around real fast and they don't ever really stand still." When he told me that I was floored.<div>
</div><div>Granted, I'm guessing this woman had no idea she was watching two of the best coaches and teams in college basketball. However, this guy's wife summed up everything I've ever thought about Stansbury's tenure at State. I felt vindicated that even a non-basketball fan could see that our team is not well coached.</div><div>
</div><div>It's not that we don't try hard (we often lack effort). But on top of that, we don't have any strategy. We play basketball like the starters just met at Sanderson, like they don't have a leader. If it's obvious to a woman who doesn't follow sports, I'm not sure how it's not obvious to everyone at State.</div>
