Every team is 0-0 today

This is intended to be an irrationally positive thread.

We’re all pretty sure this year will be an uphill slog for our beloved Scarlet Knights. But if it’s one thing we've all learned from watching this sport, it’s that teams and seasons rarely go exactly as predicted. Teams underachieve and teams overachieve every single year without fail. You never know what can happen.

So, today we are 0-0 just like every other team. We have returned to our Pike roots of defense, rebounding, and outworking the opposition. Say what you will about our predicted offensive acumen, but one thing that appears certain is that this year’s team is more athletic than the teams the previous two years, and they are going to bring it every night. No more matador Defense.

Can we be one of those teams that comes out of nowhere and overachieves? I don’t know, but today, we’re 0-0 just like everyone else and I’m going to keep positive thoughts and hope that:

- JMike continues his development into a credible PG who makes good decisions and doesn’t turn the ball over

- Buchanan and Nwuli are truly lockdown defenders

- Grant takes the next step and becomes a consistent scorer averaging 13-14 ppg

- Zrno and Badalau provide a consistent threat from behind the 3-pt arc

- We get 10 rebounds and 2 blocks from the center position

- Rutgers is in the top 5 in conference in rebounding margin

- Mark and Francis provide energy off the bench and a surprise scoring spark

- Rutgers defense returns to the 65 MPH speed limit.

I don’t know if any of this will happen over the course of the season, and it’s pretty doubtful. But today, at 0-0, I have hope.

Let’s go.

Love your optimism and I will be there rooting for the team just like I have been for the past 50 years

Also I did hear we had a tremendous drop in season ticket holders so I am not sure if we will be having sellouts!!

Love the optimism and I hope we have a respectable season. We won’t know much until we play some high majors. Since I have very low expectations, even a .500 record would feel good

At least Pikiell recruits likable players. And I'm calling it now - there will be a court storm at the RAC this season.

Every team is no longer 0-0, so to keep this string interesting - midmajor stock up/down team of the day.

Stock down:

Maine - our D better be superior to GW’s and Maine only put up 47 points on them.

Stock up:

American - BAC’s preseason upset pick had a solid opening performance dropping 74 points on a WF team that won 21 games last season.

How about Big Ten stock up/down?

Stock Up: Honestly, none - everyone played a cupcake last night, so hard to say if anyone truly exceeded expectations even with some lopsided wins.

Stock Down:
  • Ohio State - yes, they won and scored 118 points, but they gave up 102 points to IU-Indianapolis (KenPom 344), and it's not like they got up by 40 and then coasted. IU-I was within 15-20 points the entire game.
  • MSU - they only beat Colgate (KenPom 182) 80-69, and this was a 2-point game (47-45) at the 12:54 mark of the 2nd half.

If you can’t buy a ticket from Rutgers it’s a sellout. I couldn’t care less but so many of you love counting empty seats. It’s kind of pathetic.
I don't think it's worth getting into an argument over, but it's a fact that Rutgers dumps tickets to SeatGeek or StubHub or whoever their partner is at the moment, and then calls it a sellout.

Not really sure what to expect tomorrow, I'll say almost full at 6.5K with a half empty student section.

6pm midweek games aren't exactly convenient for a decent chunk of the fanbase.

I figured those games are far off. I’m focused on getting through the games leading up to the Vegas tourney for now. Hopefully there will still be a reason to care when we get closer to the BIG games.
