Was discussing this with some folks earlier..What's your Floor/Ceiling for this upcoming season? Not necessarily a prediction thread but you get the idea...I think 8 for the floor and 10 being the ceiling with this defense/d-staff we got.

I think the floor is 7, ceiling 10, both being without bowl games. Just because we improved doesn't mean other teams haven't improved as much or more. We're going to lose to lsu and bama, and probably will every year until miles or saban leaves and they make bad hires. aTm, auburn and om are the swing games. We could win all 3 just as easy as we could lose them. I don't know what auburn has coming back but they still have Marshall, who is a perfect fit for Malzahn. aTm lost a ton on offense but their defense has nowhere to go but up. They've been stellar in recruiting but it's young, unproven talent replacing all americans at qb wr and lt. OM, we know what they lost and what's coming back. They're gonn be a talented team with good defense. Will Bo's arm be stronger than last year, how healthy is their ol, can Treadwell stretch the field like Moncreif? If all those things happen then it will be one hell of an egg bowl and a very, very high bowl selection could be riding on that game for the winner.

You have to remember that Auburn was 4 plays away from having 4 losses. There is no way they should have won the game against us, the game vs UGA and the game at A&M and Iron Bowl. These were fluke wins. I don't think they pull that off twice in a row. If they do then you really have to think Malzahn has brought them Devine intervention. He is just as Godly as Freezus without all the false profit ********. And he really seems to have cleaned up Auburn's reputation.

If we don't win 10 games this year (9 regular season), it's tough to see it happening under Mullen IMO. I'll be disappointed with anything less than 7 regular season wins. We get 4 OOC wins just for showing up.

This all rides on Dak staying healthy.

I agree completely. If Auburn stays at the top again this year then Malzahn may be the best coach in the nation.

I'd say floor would be five and ceiling would be 9 before bowl game.
5 wins would be awful year.
6 wins bad.
7 wins okay
8 wins great
9 outstanding.

I think you have it right but the OL will tell the tale. Dillion Day may be

hurt worse than we thought, I hope not.

Floor 5, Ceiling 8

Until we make FGs regularly, that is what we are: somewhere between 5-7 & 8-4.

To those remarking on Auburn's luck, remember that we went 4-1 in one possession games last year. We can't expect to do that well again, especially if we can't convert in the kicking game.

With four games like that, you'd expect them to, at best, split them. They won all four. That is how special seasons are made.

What does Auburn's schedule have to do with their rivalry with MSU? Until State beats them in a close contest, don't count that as a W.

I think he screwed his arm up pretty bad during one of the late practices.

Expected to recover but I was told it was a significant injury.

Floor is 5. We should go 4-0 OOC then while no SEC game isa gimme, you'd think we'd win one between Ark and UK. If we don't have any significant injuries on the O-Line, 6 is our floor and 10 is our ceiling, with 4 OOC gimmes, should wins against UK, Ark, and Vandy; toss-ups against A&M, Aub, and UM, and likely losses versus LSU and Bama.

Y'all have to be kidding with 5 games. We should win 5 or 6 with Damian Williams starting every game.

You're a fast learner.** Do you mean the same Damian Williams, who in the Spring Game went against the 1st Team defense with 21-32-347-4-0?

Not hard when the D can't stunt or mix up coverages.

Brandon Holloway and Jeremy Chappell combined for 250 yards and 3 TDs in last year's spring game. How'd that work out?

Pretty well I thought. Maybe you should go back and rewatch the second half of last years spring game. That was entertaining football.

Led by Brandon Holloway's 128 rushing yards and Jeremey Chappelle's 114 yards receiving, the Maroon team scored 21 of the games final 28 points in securing the victory.

But I just noticed that Williams was going against 2nd team DBs. Nevertheless, the kid showed what he could do in the Bama and Upigg games.

I am done with expectations at MSU. After this baseball season, I can't handle another letdown. He'll even the basketball team couldn't meet my meager expectation of a .500 season.

This is a great topic. My inner sheep says 9-10 wins. However, I've been a State fan for a long time and have seen expectations crash and burn in the past. The floor is 6 wins....

Floor-6 Ceiling -10

If everything and anything holds true to form, my high expectations will be shot down by the arrows of dead Indians. Nevertheless, I will be disappointed with anything less than an 8-4 regular season record. I really think 9-3 is there if we can find a place kicker.

Floor - 6 wins, Ceiling - 8 wins

I think we win the four OOC games and probably the Arkansas and Vandy games since both are at home. Ole Miss and Kentucky (because they are on the road) are swing games. But I don't see any way that we beat LSU, Alabama, Texas A&M or Auburn... especially given that we have question marks along the OL this year.

If we go bowling again, I'll be happy. If we win eight or more games, I'll be thrilled.

It is disturbing to see how many posters have no understanding of what

the word "ceiling" means.

THIS! If there is a way to screw this up, we can find it. Until we actually play to potential, I will be hopeful but worried. I want to believe but we don't have a history to support incredibly high expectations. Floor 6 Ceiling 8.

I'll give you Georgia for sure. The WAY the Bama game ended was flukish, but had that one gone to OT, can you be certain Bama would have won? I can't. Auburn outgained A&M 615 to 602 including nearly 400 rushing yards. There was nothing flukish about that one. I refuse to discuss the early Christmas present Mullen gifted Malzahn.

My bad. Floor is 0 and ceiling is 14

+ 17.

It's a suitable number for the way this reply made me laugh so hard I forgot my baseball depression and my football hopes weighed against the Injuns whom always take my scalp when I get woolly.

No, I think he is referring to the one

That kept us IN the Egg Bowl, until Dak came in.
He did a great job there.

Funny, we got almost every break we could get last year and still only won six before the bowl (See my previous post about one possession games). Now it's crazy to say we might just win five?

Replace Ok State with USM at home, @ South Car is now @UK. Vandy will suck.

If we win 5 games with a healthy Dak Prescott Mullen should be fired.

I was under the assumption...

If we win 5 games with a healthy Dak Prescott Mullen should be fired.

...that our floor would be what would happen if everything went wrong for us. That could include Dak or any number of other important players getting injured.

I took it as what would be reasonable. I'd consider the chances that we suffer an injury at a key position (either qb or OT for us probably) that affects us in one or more swing games to be significant if not likely. It wouldn't take some crazy spurt of injuries for us to be a 5 win team. Last year we were down to 3rd string, true Fr qb several times. Tack on an OT injury to that situation and I think we could easily drop two of Ark, Vandy, and UK.

+1. What do you think the culprit will be? Catastrophic OL injuries? A Dak meltdown? Resurfacing NCAA allegations? Dead engines? All of the above?

As an old and wise Bulldog once told me "August is the best month to be a Bulldog fan".

Is it really a "fluke" if it happens 4 times in 1 season? Granted, UGA was a really lucky play, and if Alabama had just hit one FG during their game they probably would have won, but they got the job done against A$M and MSU. Malzahn has really impressed me with his ability to convince his players they are never out of it, and making the key adjustments to pull games out of his ***. Think back to Auburn's championship season and how many times they were losing at the half and came back to win. That wasn't just Cam Newton dominating the game, the assistant coaches were making all the right adjustments and getting the players to buy in (it clearly wasn't due to anything Chizik did).

I mean, if you think there is "no way" Auburn should have beaten us, then you must think there is "no way" that FSU should have beaten Auburn in the championship game.

When Mullen was hired, he said his goal was to get to Atlanta. I doubt we're any closer to getting to Atlanta than when he was first hired. We lost too many recruiting battles-especially on the OL. I think we'll have a pretty good team this year-maybe finish 7-5 or 8-4.
