Kentucky game. I know we deservedly got on the students this weekend but why in the hell did we schedule a Thursday game during fall break? Students will probably leave on Wednesday.

That's ridiculous

They would certainly get a pass for not being in the stands for that game. Still a pretty lousy deal that 2 of our 4 home SEC games are on Thursday nights.

Actually I think it's a great idea

There will be no parking hassles on Thursday

And hardly any students go to class the day after a Thursday night game ... so this way they are not penalized

Wouldn't the students be just as likely to stick around for a Thursday night game during the break than to stick around all the way until Saturday? I'm not seeing how this will effect the students very much.

Ideally, Fall Break coincides with a road game. At any rate, students who are leaving town are not going to stick around to watch us play Kentucky, I promise you that.

Main point is don't schedule fall break on a home football game. Doesn't make sense. Why not this weekend? We are off.

That actually makes sense. What with no classes scheduled that day, it's easier for facilities, police, the athletics departmemt, etc. to coordinate the logistics of game hosting. Germansed by Paperdog

Gotcha. I don't know how far in advance university schedules are done. It could be that with the SEC schedule shakeup, we were expecting this to be a road weekend. I really don't know. Or it could be that we just don't think about those things.

We scheduled it for TV revenue and presumably TV exposure.

Same question can be asked for having a game on Thanksgiving night. For those who go, it conflicts with family holiday activities. I know a lot don't agree, but I liked it much better on Saturday. It affects me by: driving from Huntsville to Starkville on Thursday; spending the night in the area (Tupelo for me); and driving from there to Atlanta on Friday, and missing Thanksgiving day celebrations on the day of.

Agreed. The worse part is that we didn't get a road Thanksgiving game. That move is pretty close to a Sun Belt team giving up it's return game for free.

Not a student, so I have a question:

What in the world are you going to do at home on fall break that will be better than a game? Seriously, I'm curious. I'm not much removed from college and I know there wasn't anything more fun going on at home any time during the year than an SEC game. It's late enough in October that the beach can't be that great at this point, either, unless your idea of a good time at the beach is hanging with the early snowbirds.

Obviously, everyone has a choice as to how they handle that game, but I'm just curious as to what things are so much more appealing than a night game with no class the day of or after.

So they'll drive back for an entire half of football? Doubtful. Schedule fall break on an away weekend.

Funny thing is this will happen to OM too since they have 6 home games in a row.

Some schools have moved fall break to Mon/Tues.

I'm not saying the decision is right or wrong, but this is probably the logic:

When we played LSU on a Thursday night a few years ago (Henig'g big INT night), classes had to be cancelled in order to get parking lots emptied, et al. Faculty didn't like it, but to appease them, each University Division received a significant cut of the TV money.

I assume the Athletic Department would like to keep that money if possible.

we make idiotic decisions like this at a disturbingly regular pace. guys, its time we face the reality that our leadership is lost in the clouds.
